Problems recording from vinyl

andymynydd wrote on 8/13/2020, 4:22 AM

Dear Sirs,

I have received this invoice for a product I have neither ordered or received.

I have, however, been experiencing problems with my band new version of Sound Forge Lab 2, which I have reported to yourselves.

It may be that this upgrade resolves the problems I am having but as I have only just purchased this product surely it should be the latest edition and I should not be expected to pay for an update within days of buying it.

I await your response.

Regards

Andrew Mountain

@andymynydd

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums; none of us are Magix staff. As such, you have received nothing from anyone here!

From what you write, it seems you have been experiencing some sort of problem with Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab 2 and have contacted Magix Support for help and have been sent an invoice. Is that correct? If so, clearly no-one here can offer any advice or assistance with the invoice, but we may well be able to offer advice with whatever problem(s) you are experiencing with your Magix software.

So, if you want our help, many more details, please!

Thanks Jeff,

My problem is complicated - but I am sure there is a simple remedy!

I use my Sound Forge Auto Cleaning lab 2 for digitising and cleaning my large vinyl collection. I only recently bought this version as my old computer crashed losing everything so decided to upgrade.

Everything appeared OK (although the auto cleaning function doesn't ask you to apply as the old version did).

In order to confirm it had cleaned a track I played it back and noticed that the track had been 'clipped' both at the beginning and end. Checking back I then found this had happened on several tracks - but not all!

Trying to suss it out I have used different levels of cleaning and that doesn't appear to matter. I recorded a whole album without any problems and thought the problem had rsolved itself then, next day, it returned!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Clipped"? in terms of amplitude or data?

If there is silence where there should be sound, I would suspect an improperly set noise gate or expander. But that is just an 'in general' possibility as I am not familiar with CL.

No silence - just the first 18 - 20 seconds of the recording missing

Just an idea -- make sure you have resolution consistency throughout the recording chain. If your interface can't resolve higher than 16/44.1 don't record your material at 24/48.
