Hi Ray, Had to go to Tea. Attached is a snip of the computer showing the connection ports, from left to right Black, black, blue and blue, I connect the external Hard drive to one of the blue sockets.

@Robert-Doherty

Hi Robert.

Yes either of the two blue tabbed ports for the USB drive.

Yes you have the correct area for the power requirements but you don't want your disks to shut down after twenty minutes. Make it hours or preferably never. The disks will still shut down if you put the computer to sleep rather than shutdown.

You should choose one of the two power plans of High Performance or Ultimate performance.

But I finally understand what you did and why you can't see anything in the other two modes.

Thank you for those two screen shots. 🙏🙏🙏

Why did you change the track order of the video and audio channels?

Although not normally an issue, if you only have one set of videos using two separate tracks then the video should be above the audio not the other way around.

Watch the video.

After all that 🤣🤣🤣

I think it also shows that most people here don't use the other two modes or someone would have done the same by now so don't feel bad about it.

Ray.

Hi Ray,

Strangely with all my fiddling with the settings in my computer the issue with swapping modes has resolved itself so I will let sleeping dogs lay. This situation started when I first started using Magix, I was having problems inputting a fade at the beginning of a video, a tutorial I watched showed swapping modes and in Storyboard the handles for a fade automatically appeared, problem solved but as we have seen produced another. I will continue mainly with Timeline.

With the audio over video situation I have no explanation, in my previous Sony Vegas Program I used video over audio so I can only put down to a brain snap.

Thanks John, Ray and AAProds for the help and guidance.

Hi Robert.

None of the problems you had, I feel should have been caused by your track layout.

It was only your last couple of images showing the audio on the top track that made me wonder and check if that would work in the other two viewing modes and they didn't.

Why did I check? because normally whenever a track with sound is put into a project that separates the audio from the video, the program puts the video track above the audio, every time.

But that is not what the manual says. In fact it is not mentioned at all. Simply it says the following about tracks.

I've highlighted the last bottom lines. 'In principle, any object (now an 'object' can be video, audio or still image) can be placed on any of the tracks'.

Now why would they start a sentence with 'In principle'? To me it sounds like a bug and possibly that they know this can happen. I may be being paranoid at that point but it is a weird way to explain a function in a manual.

I am glad you have decided to use the timeline mode though as the other two modes are in my opinion very limited in the amount of information they provide.

Things like titling and overlays are difficult to depict in the other two modes.

Happy editing.

Ray.

Thanks Ray, Although I cannot reproduce the first time I uploaded a piece of film in Magix I am pretty sure that the audio automatically appeared above the vision. I had been using Sony Vegas which input the audio below the vision. Initially I was a bit confused with Magix but then just moved audio to below each time I upload. With that snip on the 14th I just didn't bother.

Have a safe Christmas.

Hi Robert.

I believe you whole heartedly.

I am notoriously good at breaking programs when I try. Trying to figure out what might have happened to you I broke the program some more. I have successfully made a project where I imported a file that was to show the video and sound on one track but then asked it to separate the tracks while in Storyboard mode and saved the project. Then I opened the project and put it in Timeline mode. Did the tracks separate? No. Does the program have the command to separate the tracks? yes.

No matter now how many times I now open that project, the sound will not go onto the second track.

So that's new. 🤣😏

As for having a safe Christmas. Too late. Today I went with my wife shoe shopping. 😅

Hi

. . . . normally whenever a track with sound is put into a project that separates the audio from the video, the program puts the video track above the audio, every time . . . .

I seem to remember that at one time there was a definitive statement saying something like 'track 1 is the background for the project and should only contain video or images', all other tracks are 'universal' with respect to content.

. . . . No matter now how many times I now open that project, the sound will not go onto the second track. . . . .

Did you try dragging the video/audio object down to track 3 and then delete tracks 1 and 2?

When I change this even tho Settings says separate tracks it puts it on one track.

Hi Guys.

My point was that although the program settings show that the project should on it's own open the project with the sound on a separate track according to the program settings it doesn't. Yes I could manually change the track layout but looking at it as a newbie I would probably think something was wrong.

Hi John.

If you look at the image and comment I made about the last line in the image explaining track layouts which was

'In principle, any object (now an 'object' can be video, audio or still image) can be placed on any of the tracks'.

I found the wording very odd. 'In principle' means they are not sure. Why?

Over time I have found some project settings are retained even if a project is not saved and other times saving a project doesn't always mean a setting is retained when the project is reopened.

Sometimes I have found these quirks to be advantageous in my workflow. For instance, if I have a 4K project that over time starts to stutter in certain sections on playback and if at that point I do an export at 1080p and then close the project I get the 'The project has changed. Do you want to save?'. If I press yes, the next time I open the project it plays back smoothly. I have not activated or used proxy files. None have been created and yet the project plays back better until I do an export at 4K again. Why? I have no idea. Sometimes it doesn't work. I suppose it depends on the amount or type of effects and tracks I have running. Again I have no idea why. I just take advantage of such things when I can.

Ray.

Try clearing the Undo and cache memory - Edit, Empty undo and cache memory instead.

Sounds like a bottleneck with cache clearing, especially if jumping around the timeline.

Hi John.

Tried that on a current project just now to no effect but my version of trying to correct it didn't work either this time.

Not so much jumping around as a stutter.

Sometimes I guess it just comes down to the power of individual components in the system for a given set of adjustments within a project.

Hi John.

No, I never really have a problem with that unless I have so many multiple tracks running that occasionally a video file corrupts upon playback or that clip goes black. Increasing the audio sample blocks normally clears that and normally that only happens to png files with a clear background that are animated.

two examples of logos I made into 3D with transparency that have in the past corrupted on multiple playback passes.
