I'm not quite sure what you mean be a 'frame bar', but your description suggests that you have selected a clip from the media pool which gets shown in the preview window but is not yet part of your project -- eg it is not been put onto a timeline track.
The failure to play using the space bar is most likely due to your having a pane other that the timeline selected ('input focus' is the proper term). For most MEP versions the 'active' pane (media pool / timeline / preview etc) is highlighted with a thin blue line at its top. Just click within the timeline section and the space bar should work as expected.
NOTE: Which pane has the input focus is particularly important when you use the [Delete] key. If the timelines have the focus and an object is selected it will be deleted, BUT if the media pool has the input focus you will delete any selected files! :-(
There are some variations between different version of MEP -- I't would help if you identified your program eg MEP 14+ or MEP MX etc.

Thanks for tryi ng to help me ... The 2 problems I have now .... I did noty have them before! are
1> In the Program monitor, I cannot play video or audio objects ... neither the media pool. When I click on the play button, nothing happens!! If I click on go to first frame, it works ... if I manuallly control the cursor in the project, I moves with my mouse but I just cannot play real time. Very strange!!
2> I also cannot import raw footazge from my camcorder ... it all looks right except it does not record on the hard drive!
I twice re-installed the MagixPro17 software and it went thru the repair procedure!
Puzzling!
