Possibly OT: Mute All somehow being enabled unexpectedly

terrypin wrote on 12/11/2015, 2:45 AM

I'm regularly finding the Mute All option in the Playback Volume window enabled:

The reason I'm posting here is because this has arisen during the last week or two, a period during which I've been using MEP 2014 intensively for 8-10 hours a day on my XP PC. Other candidates (resident or heavily used programs) include Macro Express Pro, Google Earth, Firefox and Memory Map. Of course, there are dozens of other less frequently used apps and tools that could be causing this, or some OS glitch.

I get maybe 1-3 crashes per day from MEP (my project is fairly complex) and that's why MEP is top of my suspect list. I suspect that some of these crashes (often freezes that require forced termination via TM) may somehow set Mute All on. Anyone had similar behaviour please?

Hi Terry

Finger trouble ?

Do you have a keyboard with volume controls on it, in particular a mute button - mine has both a mute button and rotary volume control, and are adjacent to a key that you use regularly in MEP?

or

Have you assigned a key combination (macro) to mute the audio and are hitting this when in MEP?

Hi John,

Thanks, but although I can't rule out finger trouble I don't think so in this case. This morning for example I noticed it when I re-opened my MEP 2104 project and tried to play the timeline in vain. Pretty sure it was playing sound OK last night before I left the PC.

And although my Logitech KB does have a mute function, it needs two buttons pressed, one of whicfh, 'FN', I never use for anything else.

Still looking for a possible macro/MEP hotkey conflict.

Happened only once in last few days - and I'm 99% sure that was directly after rendering an MP4 in MEP 2014.

Will report back if I ever resolve it.

Have to ask... Do you have a cat that "makes contact" with the keyboard?  I do, and the Mute keyboard button has been hit more than once.
