Positioning help for Four Videos

Xenofex2 wrote on 9/2/2022, 10:11 AM

I have done this before but with upgrades it seems that the technique has changed and so would appreciate some advice please.

It is a 16:9 project and I wish to have a short section with four videos showing. Having reduced the first video to 960x540, I cannot now find the setting to exactly position this first video in the top left of the screen (and then correctly add three more clips in their respective positions). I have checked my 3rd Edition Manual but the Program Version I now have does not show the same as the screenshot in the Manual, which is just, Size/Position. I thought that showing ‘0’ against Horizontal & Vertical should place this in the top left but it has placed it in the middle of the screen! I am missing something obvious but what?

I have stayed with version MEP 21-0-1 104

@Xenofex2 Hi, set your video back to full screen then use the picture in Picture options in Templates , 4/3

Size/Position refers to the anchor point in the centre of the media image, 0/0 is dead centre of the screen

this is 3840 x 2160 so you'll have to halve the sizes for 1920 x 1080 but it should help show how it works.

Thankyou, it worked although I think it is something I need to sleep on to try and understand why.

I looked at Size/Position and see it is +/- 480/270 so again I am confused.

Grandchildren here at the moment so need to checkout further for a next time.

Thankyou though for your answer.

@Xenofex2 Yeah sorry bit confusing showing that pic,

Your project is 1920 x 1080 which is half the width & half the height of my 3840 x 2160 pic, (3840 ÷ 2 = 1920 & 2160 ÷ 2 = 1080), so all the sizes on there will be half on your screen.

So your +/- 480/270 is half of the +/- 960/540 size on my pic

I don't know if this will help, green is the size of your project, blue is the size of my pic, it's twice as big (4 times bigger to be accurate)

Thankyou. The mist is clearing.

Hi George,

Magix changed the way SPR works. The position origin is now at the centre of an object whereas before, it was at the upper left. This is called an anchor point and you can change the location to help you out, but you will still have to do some calculations.

MS2023 has a new feature to quickly position an object:

With this, all you have to do is change the size then select where you want it, upper left, upper right, etc. Without this, you have some calculations to do.

MS2023 also has the same positioning box for the Anchor point.

Thanks John. I thought the anchor point had been top left, so it was not my memory failing.

Although it does not seem that long ago that I bought my new PC, it seems that it is not suitable for Upgrades so shall stick with what I have got. At least I should remember next time i try, how to position four videos.

Thankyou both.
