Mark, according to the specs, your TV should cope. Since you have a known good MP4 from Clipchamp, we can compare it with your MMS file. We use a program called Mediainfo to deep-dive into files.

I suggest you install it as per JohnEB's tute here:

and copy and post here the "Text" View results for both files. That should reveal the difference and what you need to change on your Magix export to be readable by the TV.

Mark, good job on those. The only area that appears to be different that I can see is the video Format Profile. The Clipchamp is "Constrained Baseline" and Magix is "High".

While waiting for an expert, try exporting out of Magix with a profile of "Main". This is set via the Advanced button on the Export screen. The dropdown is for Main and High. Try it on Main.

The other thing I noticed is the Clipchamp video frame rate is 30, and Magix 25. That should be set to the frame rate of your movie so one is incorrect. I normally match the export frame rate to that of the files I'm editing.

Two items of data strike me whilst quickly viewing your MediaInfo data, frame rate and audio sampling frequency. For Clipchamp the former is 30fps and the latter 44.1kHz; for MMS the former is 25fps and the latter 48kHz.

Try exporting from MMS at 30fps (I don't think the audio sample rate should affect how your TV plays the file, but the fps could).

Hi

In addition to @AAProds and @emmrecs comments:

The big difference between the Clipchamp and MEP export is the Constrained profile is I and P frames only, the MEP High profile export is I, P and B frames.

Try the following:

Change the MEP MP4 h.264, Advanced setting indicated in image below, to the setting shown.

If this does not play
Export as AVCHD with the appropriate framerate for you location ie 25 fps if in a PAL system region, or 30fps if NTSC and test.

Now i am confused😕Not any changes helped. Then I tried to stream over wlan from my computer to TV, and all videos done with Magix worked with no problem. I think now I can keep on ahead. Many thanks to everyone for help 😀

Allthough I marked this case as solved, still I have to say something. There are something too difficult for me, stupid 😲 old fogy. I can cut, crop and many ways edit videos, but the exporting as .mp4 I have to do with other software, mainly with the free Movie Maker. It is very simle, only few clicks and there it is.

In my opinion there are need to develop the exporting feature that even stupider old man could do all phases with the same software. Now it is a little ridiculous that there is needed some free software to make the final phase.

Hi

From your latest post in another topic, and are still having issues with the Sony TV playing back MP4 h.264 video files, try exporting as AVCHD, using the AVCHD preset shown below - do not make any changes to the preset settings and ensure there are no spaces or other illegal characters in the filename, ie only use a - z, and numbers if required, in the filename you specify for the exported video and leave the file extension as .mts .

Have you tried different USB sticks?

Today I tried AVCHD exporting and the video was playable on my TV. But but . . . . this exporting mode produces video with .m2ts file extension. Never heard about that kind of file extension. Movie Maker does not recognize it. In addition, my camera works 30 fps, MMS23 says 29,97 fps. Why not pure .MP4 be possible? Still I feel I have done bad deal.

Hi Mark.

MP4 is what they call a wrapper which helps choose the correct codec to use for the data rate of the file. For higher bit rate files this could be AVI but lower resolution files normally get an mts or m2t codec applied. That is normal.

The 29.97fps is normally reserved for interlaced video reproduction from an analogue tape where each 'frame consists of two interlaced images. Digital transfers are normally progress file types and would use whole frame rates as the image does not consist of two parts. So if the file came from an video tape or early digital camcorder then the correct frame rate would be 29.97fps.

Movie Maker is a very basic video editor all be it quite a capable one and easy to use. Magix Studio does more but probably needs more experience to get the best out of it.

This is the Blu-Ray AVCHD video standard file format, Movie Maker should, looking at the specs, support this format as it is AVC/h.264 encoded, however it is probably expecting the MP4 or MOV file extension.

NTSC default framerate is 29.97 fps, some cameras record at this rate, however in their specs they call it 30 fps which technically it is if quoting the rounded up fps value.

MediaInfo is a standard tool we use for analysis of video files to determine their true encoding and other parameters. You can download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the clips, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip.

In the video section of the analysis you will see the true frame rate of the video.

As the AVCHD file plays on the TV, this would suggest to me that the bitrate of the Movie Studio export for the MP4 h.264 may be too high for the TV, try changing the MP4 export settings to those highlighted in the image below - do not change any of the other settings - and test this file. If this works you can save those settings as a preset.

It seems to be solved. I bought a new TV, then I took a pure .mts file and with no any settings I exported it to .mp4 format and put it on tv. Playback worked with no problem. Time has passed from my old tv.
