Paypal integration

david-howells wrote on 10/26/2021, 2:16 AM

I'm confused. I think it's because I'm talking to two companies who aren't familiar with each other's software.

I'm creating a store at https://www.rtfact.co.uk using Web Designer Pro v17. I want to add payment by Paypal. I have a Business account with Paypal. I can use the Paypal 'add to cart' widget in Xara to create a button and include the button that appears to open a connection to Paypal for payment.

I know I have to create a new button for each product but is this all that's required?

When I talked to Paypal they were talking about creating a cart in Xara. Is this right?

I don't understand the caution I've read (in Xara I think) about editing Paypal buttons and the need to add buttons as placeholders. This is foreign territory for me. Can someone help, please?

Thanks in advance

Thanks for your prompt reply. The answer is that I have now read the topic and evidently I've done everything right, What I'd like to do is to 'prove' the system by making some purchases without actually spending money - I think that's something called a sandbox? I realise you're Magix/Xara but can you point me in the right direction?

Your help much appreciated since it confirms my suspicion why I was being confused.

Further to my previous I now find I cannot pull up the import the Paypal add to cart widget from Xara's content catalogue nor can I open it to edit from the install button. The page appears briefly but then disappears never to re-appear.

Can you help please?

@david-howells

 I realise you're Magix/Xara

Just for absolute clarity, John, like all the moderators and the great majority of those who post here, is NOT a Magix employee. We are all fellow-users of a variety of Magix software.

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry if I've offended you as Jeff's message seems to suggest.

I have not asked questions here out of laziness. I've downloaded the entire pdf manual and nowhere do I find the articles to which you kindly point me. Is there a document about Paypal integration I should be reading? In the meantime thank you again. Your help is much appreciated.

Further to my previous, I continue to be unable to correctly operate the import or edit functions of the Add to Cart widget in the Content Catalogue. I happen to have v18 installed also although I'm not using it for the current project and the same thing happens in that program also - irrespective of the project that's open. Am I missing something?

Hi

The PayPal integration documentation is that I have already linked to.

Which shopping cart widget are you using?

. . . . I'm sorry if I've offended you as Jeff's message seems to suggest . . . .

No offence taken - it is a common misconception that moderators are Magix employees.

John

Thanks for your message. The shopping cart widget I'm using is the 'Add to Cart' though I've checked and the 'Buy Now' widget performs exactly the same way namely that when the form goes to PayPal's button factory it flashes on to the page then disappears leaving the action incomplete. When I press insert it reports that there's no HTML selected or on the clipboard. FWIW the view cart widget appears to work correctly. Also FWIW I tried using the Add to Cart widget import in Web Designer Pro 18 and that too acted the same was as I've described for v17.

Hi

Assuming you have created a new button for each item, and the widget created the placeholders.

Export the website to a local folder and using your browser open the index.html and test the PayPal buttons as described in the PayPal article I linked to.

This is an example I have tested:

  1. In Web Designer

    Placeholders - grey rectangles

Embedded HTML - right click placeholder and select Web properties

  2. Browser view after export
