Path not found error when opening music files

Rick-Harderwijk wrote on 11/15/2022, 3:39 PM

Using Movie Edit Pro Premium 2021, 20.0.1.80 (I lost my 21.x version on the reinstall of the software, but that version had the same issue, hence the reinstall) on Windows 10 Version 21H2 (OS Build 19044.2130).

When trying to open supporting a music file, I get the error "Path not found \:\ !"

I have already reinstalled the software and set the program back to the defaults. This did not help.

Further analysis, using Process Monitor, shows me that the videodeluxe.exe process is in fact accessing the file, succesfully, and then tries to create a file on location C:\: <-- note the extra colon here. After that, it starts creating a MessageBox window showing me the Path not found error.

This also occurs when trying to preview a file from the store: the file gets downloaded from the internet, put in an \Audio Temp\ folder, and then it tries to create a file at the same c:\: location.

Now, I'm guessing this is the actual problem, as this happens with every music file I want to open. I just do not know why it is doing this. Which setting got messed up that I need to fix, but that did not get fixed with a reinstall and the reset to default settings?

I hope someone can help me out, as the software now is only half functional.

Hi, and welcome to the user to user forums.

Have you checked the folder paths created or changed in the program settings?

Ray.

Hi

. . . . error "Path not found \:\ !" . . . . tries to create a file on location C:\: < . . . also occurs when trying to preview a file from the store . . \Audio Temp\ folder, and then it tries to create a file at the same c:\: location . . . .

These would suggest either:

  • The location, the program is trying to create a support file in, is being blocked by your Antivirus program.

Try turning off you Antivirus Folder/Ransomware protection feature and access the audio file again.

    OR

  • the file(s) are located on, or in a folder on, your desktop, in which case they must be moved to, preferably the default folder Documents\Magix, or other a folder within the Documents folder, or on a second drive if you have one.

The Desktop is a protected location and should not be used as a location for storing files of any kind.

If this is the case and the program folder paths have been set to use Desktop locations then these too must be changed.

Hi John,

Many thanks, the issue was similar but different - though your comment put me into the right direction.

I had configured the software to use a location on my NAS server, using a UNC path, like \\nas\user\Magix . This does not seem to work. The reason I configured it that way was that I wanted to keep the used space on my local ssd kept to a minimum. I have now configured the software to use local storage. Will look into possible other options for this configuration to work, maybe with a mapped drive instead of UNC path.

Thanks again for your suggestions, at least I now have a working configuration.

Cheer,
Rick

Hi

A mapped drive is the way to go - I do this on my laptop, for a different reason, however there are no issues with failing folder locations.
