Paste text into Scrolling Credits in Magix Video Edit Pro 2013?

rjkowalski wrote on 11/10/2012, 3:28 PM

How can I cut & paste from a Word document into Final Credits of a video?  I don't want to re-type the cast list of a production.  I've previously used Sony Vegas Movie Studio but I'm trying out Magix Video Edit 2013 for its Multicam feature.  In Vegas, I could cut & paste text from a theatre cast list document into the scrolling credit listing.  I found the Final Credit titling effect in Magix Video Edit but do not see an option for pasting in text.

I do this all the time.

Select your text in Word. It ctrl-c to copy.

In MEP inthe edit text box hit ctrl-v to paste.

Hi

In MEP 2013  MX and 17  I have found that copying direct from Word 2007 into a title editor does not work.

The text box gets extended vertically for 2000 - 3000 px and is very narrow - it looks like the hidden formatting code in a Word document is messing up the title editor.

Can anyone else reproduce this.

The only way I can get it to work is to copy from Word to Notepad, then from Notepad to MEP2013 / MX / 17 - Notepad removes all the Word formatting.

Hi John,

Tried this in Word 2000 (on my XP PC) and it gets pasted in correctly, replacing whatever text type and size format was already selected in MEP. No narrow box.

Hi Terry

Thanks for trying.

Unfortunately for this test,  the Word 2000 file format is different Word 2007 / 2010.  Microsoft in their wisdom change to a different format with Word 2007 onwards which caused all kinds of problems initially.

That is progress !!

Hi

Here is more information on what is going on

Text as pasted into the Title editor before click the tick.

Text after clicking the tick

The Size Movement settings

And this is what it looks like scrolling bottom to top

And this is what it looks like after pasting from Word to Notepad,  then Notepad to MEP 2013

Looks like I am getting spacing problems - curious!!!

Hi John,

Try unchecking 'Automatic text break'. That worked for me on my latest test. With that checked I got similar behaviour to you.

Or for better quality:https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/Word-To-MEP-2.jpg

For my earlier test I'd assumed that any title style would do, but this time I specifically used Credits.

Hi Terry

I missed the post for some reason - I have tried what you suggested and I still get the same result.

I have also tried pasting from Word after changing the paragraph style so that I only get single line spacing after pressing the Enter key for a new line - I still get the same problem.

Here is an image showing text pasted from Word note the symbols indicated

Here is the same text box after type the text in the Preview monitor - note the absence of any new line characters

Odd behaviour !!

John

Hi John,

Odd indeed! Looks like it's unique to that version of Word as you first suspected. I can't get anything like that here on my ancient version.

BTW, I note we've heard nothing more from the OP.

Gentlemen....thanks for giving it a try.  I'm sorry I haven't logged back in until now but I didn't realize there was any activity (my deafault settings didn't send me emails when there was activity).  I'm new to this particular forum and it's a little tougher to follow than creativecow which I was used to.  I originally posted to the Questions & Answers area here, thinking that would be answered by Magix & then found the Forum where I posted again for user dialogue.  I got dressed down for posting it twice.  My mistake for not knowing they were the same.

I finally was able to give it a go again today and like you I've been struggling to get the pasted material to retain it's format to some degree.  I will try pasting from Notepad as you suggest.   I finally have a couple free hours while the wife is shopping.  I need to figure this out within the month if I'm going to attempt using this software for editing an upcoming musical theatre production (I usually get the Program in MS Publisher format & cut/paste the cast list into my editing software).  So far, I'm enjoying MEP 2013 versus Sony Vegas Studio but I'm having trouble finding as many tutorials to help ease the trasition.  I suspect I'll be using Camtasia to make my own tutorials as I go & I'll post them for others if they help me.  I need the cheat sheets or concise videos because I don't get to video edit as much as I'd like and I almost have to relearn it to edit each production.

I was able to Copy text from an MS Publisher document into MEP 2013 using Ctrl-V to paste into the Final Credits Title.  MEP retained the formatting pretty well although I had to adjust some spacing.  Since the Final Credits background is set to a blac background by default, I suggest changing the background to White before copying in the text - since text is usually black and it won't look like the paste function worked with black on black.

Once copied into MEP, you can then adjust the sizing, scroll time, & font adjustments for clarity.   So far, I'm happy with the results.
