Out grown my HP20?

Michael-Smith7480 wrote on 3/17/2021, 6:16 AM

I have an HP20 desktop which I use for Music Maker without issue, I recently upgraded to Music Maker 64 and bought Music Maker Premium (which I have not installed yet).

When trying to use Music Maker 64 I notice it freezes when loading previous projects made with Music Maker, and freezes when using in general.

The PC has 4Gb RAM AMD E1-2500 APU 1.40GHz 64bit X64-based-processor running windows 10 ver 2004 with Radeon graphics. My question is simple before I go out and source a new PC has the DAW software (Music Maker64 and Premium) outgrown my HP20?

@Michael-Smith7480 Music Maker needs a modern 2 GHz CPU at minimum, an audio interface is recommended (should be one with good ASIO drivers). And 4 GB RAM is very low for 64 bit Windows 10. I would recommend at least 8 or better 16 GB RAM.

Thanks very much for your reply and attention, I was just being a cheap ass and hoping to avoid splashing out on a new system; so now have arriving a Dell Optiplex 3050 MFF, Core i5-7500T, 8GB Ram, 128GB SSD, with Win 10 Pro. So many hair pulling days of set-up coming up but at least this will be a dedicated DAW system. Again thank you.

@Michael-Smith7480 I hope everything runs well. If you have questions just ask again in this forum.

You should certainly see an improvement in speed with that machine but there is one thing to consider with your new computer: I think that you will find that the 128GB SSD will tend to fill up rather quickly. I think your (potentially quite imminent next purchase) will be an external USB3 drive for data storage. Especially since you say this machine will be a dedicated DAW system; audio files can quickly become rather large!

Thanks to every one who has helped this poor lock-down-muic producer wannabe. I,ve installed music maker premium and ported over all my soundpools and instruments and I am delighted how fast it loads except now I can get no sound out of it, I know it's not the external speakers as I can play MP3 music. Is there a audio driver missing in windows 10 Pro or am I missing something again?

@Michael-Smith7480

What audio driver is selected under Program settings>Audio/MIDI tab?

This is a great community, you guys have so much patience with a newbie, I had a non-existent ASIO driver selected, I found any other driver except this one worked. Many thanks again guys.

P.s Thanks for the suggestion I had actually ordered a USB 3.0 2Tb external disc just for this purpose, so your suggestion shows I am on the right track.
