OT: Viewing options in Q&A

terrypin wrote on 5/30/2016, 2:00 AM

I was checking this morning to see if a feature I've suggested several times over the last eight years or so had been implemented yet. Namely an option that would let me view the Q&A section in the familiar way used by other forums, showing threads with recent replies at the TOP, instead of by the date of the original post. It hasn't.

But in the process I tried 'Most answers first'. That plainly doesn't work:

[Inserting my screenshot using Image is repeatedly crashing Firefox. I'll now try a Link instead.]

Also, changing to any option other than the default 'Latest questions first' loses whatever filter was selected (Photo, Video, Music, etc) and shows ALL categories. And if you then  try to re-select the filtered subset again, the option gets reset to 'Latest questions first'!

I've used the usual Feedback link, but never had a response before so not optimistic of one now.

Hi Terry,

The present Q&A system makes it very difficult to follow additions to a thread. TalkGraphics has a "What's new" button that I use all of the time. Any thread with a new message pops up. Surely Magix can add a feature.like this here.

Hi John,

Yep, it's a frustrating obstacle but Magix don't seem to care.

Maybe you and anyone else who feels the same could use the Feedback link top right to reinforce my own input.

One useful tool I use is My Overview > My Questions/Topics and My Answers, for checking on threads to which I've contributed.

Hi

The other thing I find strange is that not all the questions appear in the questions tab of "All about Magix programs> Movie Edit Pro" There are some MEP and some VPX but not all which appear in "Questions and Answers>Video....".

I think Support confirmed some years ago that this was to be expected, but I didn't really understand why. I think the "Latest answers first" option was asked for also at the time but obviously no change there.

I use the My answers route also, but it doesn't help you to find an interesting question if you didn't answer.

The other thing that seems very random is the notification balloon that comes up at the top in New News. Do you find the same?

Peter

OK, hadn't been aware of those omissions in the Forum.

Agreed, I've never been able to rely on getting notified of relevant posts. So, unless I'm diligent and go searching for any, then they go without follow-up.

Hi everybody,

first of all I want to ensure you that every feedback is appreciated. We know that the "Questions and Answers" section is improvable and in the long run we definitely will do something about it.

For now, we will have a look into the reported bugs. This can take some time, so please be patient.

Regarding the notifications: To consistently get notifications for followed threads/topics you need to mark and delete the notification you get. So you can get a new one the next time.

Best regards,
the magix.info team

Nice to hear from the Magix team.

Under the Forums tab, if someone posts a reply to a message that I create, sometimes the notification shows up by my name, sometimes not. For example, yesterday I created 2 messages under VPX and there was a reply to each. There was no indication of a message beside my user name at the top of the screen, and nothing highlighted at the right of the screen after clicking on Forum. Sometimes there is, sometimes not. Since it's not consistent, it will probably be hard to fix.

The other anomally that i have noticed is that under the Q&A part, if I reply and then someone else replies, usually there is an indication of this with a number beside my username at the news button. However, after a few replies, there is no more indication, so even if my reply is number 11, when someone else replies (#12) I no longer receive notification. I don't know exactly when this starts happening, but it's like there is a counter that stops working after about 9 or 10 answers to a question.

One annoyance, and I am sure that you are well aware of this, is spam, and the moderator has to sort through the new messages every day to remove the spam. This does not happen in the Forum part as it seems to have better protection.

Other than these and what Terry mentioned, the site works very well.

Thanks,
