OT: Streaming show-stopper

No sooner did I heave a big sigh of relief by postponing the Main Concept issue (exporting HEVC instead) than I hit this one. Spent about five hours on it this morning in vain. It's obviously OT but I'm sure there are other Magix users here streaming to a smart TV who have some idea what's going on.

In short, my Panasonic is definitely internet-connected (wifi), because I can play music and view images from my Win 10 PC folders. But not videos, which were never a problem before, admittedly a long time ago. Selecting Videos > Folders gives "Cannot connect to the selected DLNA server" whatever route I take. I've checked all settings that seem relevant but....

If the darn thing works for images and music, why on earth can't it play my videos?

I need to press on with the editing (one more day left to do of a seven day holiday) to finish by tomorrow morning. But I do hope I'm not going to be limited to burning a DVD - assuming that works OK.

EDIT: It's only the Video > Folders option that gets the error. All others such as Video > All Videos, Video > Series, etc are OK. Yet I can see nothing special in the properties of those folders, but now need to take another hard look.

Hi Terry.

Neither of our TVs are smart but I can plug in either a USB stick or a USB card reader with an SD or similar card in it and read video files from there as long as that TV can read those types of files. For the Lounge TV it is mov. and for the kitchen TV it is MP4. If I go via either of the Blu-ray players they both accept MP-4 on their USB ports. No need for disks.

However, my favoured potental work-around stems from the discovery in my Edit above. All Folders gives access to my 5,733 \Video files (not all playable, of course). It looks like they are in date order, so I'll be able to find this particular movie - once it gets finished.

If anyone else streaming with a Panasonic (Peter?) sees this thread, any idea how those other categories (like Video > Series, etc) get populated? I can't see an obvious mapping to my PC folders.

EDIT: I think I can answer that last one; they are used in Windows Media Player (not my video player of choice).

Correct. Pretty much like putting the video on YouTube and watching from there.

In case anyone else ever ends up here with a similar problem, it was a WMP issue. I don't use it and have always found it largely incomprehensible, and this is an example of why:

Hi Terry, Ray

For users of Windows 11 22H2 the above options are no longer available for streaming video by default.

To fix this requires the Windows Media Player Legacy feature to be installed:-

Windows settings, Apps, Optional features, Add optional feature, Windows Media Player Legacy

This installs the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service which then needs setting to Automatic start in Windows Services management.

How long this feature will be avaialble is not known, WMP has been deprecated and its features may be removed completely in later generations of the OS.

No, the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is a specific feature of Windows and shares Windows Media Player libraries to other networked players and media devices eg networked TV's and some DVD/BD players.
