OS crashed, had to export files prior to reinstallation. Now Adobe opens .HDP files no matter what I do. Help.

Just before my OS crashes, I usually offload and export Magix Program and files to a secondary drive.  Once this happens, the OS is reinstalled.  Two things have happened as a result.  Magix is never the same again, and it forces me to have to download all the main files every time.  I use Word 2007 and Adobe Reader 9, Windows XP Professional.  Intel Centrino Duo, IBM Thinkpad Lenovo R61

This is a major issue for me.   I can't keep being forced by your program to reinstall, because I already have the program in it's entirety.  What is it that is causing this?   There needs to be a specific Magix exporting "Program" that can help with this.  Magix need to consider doing this.an

Secondly:   Now with this most recent re-download, I am finding that Magix will open a file, but only the Mp3 file I used to record vocals, but wll not open any of the associated module files for instruments.  Again, I don't know how to solve this huge glitch following a download and reinstall.  I want to find my music files exactly the way I left them.  Do you know how to do this?  How can I "re-batch" all of the associated files used to produce a song/sound file .MMM?  Problems Problems Problems.     Eleyan

First please clear these it is important

What is your Music Maker version?

"Just before my OS crashes, I usual ly offload and export Magix Program and files to a secondary drive."

What is it that is causing this?

Do you mean you saved the Magix Progam and files on external drive? If so did you save the Magix Program as Image (ISO) or how just copied the program and files?

Unless this is clear it is difficult to know the cause but in the meantime, if you have saved the Magix Program and its file on external drive or any where else. And after re-installing OS you are using Magix program from external drive. In that case Windows will read the program usually on C drive because where ever Windows is installed it will read files on the sector of drive then it will go to your secondary drive and that will cause error.

Also as you know after April 8, 2014, technical assistance for Windows XP will no longer be available therefore it is difficult time for you.

Now

"I want to find my music files exactly the way I left them.  Do you know how to do this?"

It is only possible if someone can guide you if you answer the above (where Magix Program is installed?)

If you want Music Maker to find your files exactly in that case you should have all files including program in the same place other wise even a slight change in the file path will give you error/errors.

Example: Magix Program was installed on C Program/Magix Music Maker/ Project, Import, Export, Record, Soundpool folder were installed where they are supposed to be. Now after re-installing of OS if the total situation is similar(exactly) then there should not be any problem. If you remember how it was before try to do the necessary adjustment accordingly and reply back here with your details.

Please note this is not a Magix support we are users like you and share our experience though there are also Moderators.

Eleyan.....on the surface, I am surprised Nihon took the bait, but he appears to be sincere.  My best advice is going to cost you money.....buy a new computer.  Do that and install MM and I can almost guaranatee that all your issues, real, imagined, or self iinduced will clear up.....I can't give you a 100% guarantee because I am not sitting next to you so I can smack your hands.

Since Eleyan didn't say, we can only assume she's using an old version of Music Maker.  In this case, if she upgrades the computer, she'd have to upgrade to a more recent version of Music Maker.

Procyon.....sounds like a win-win, to me !!

If your computer was pending a crash, what would you do?   Is it possible to save all files on a removable drive and work on them from there?  Yes, it is the downloadable version 18 from 2-3 years ago.  Not that  long really.  Not working , so cannot afford an upgrade.  Not used to having my hands slapped by anyone, so not likely to take you up on that one, Gnarly.  Thank you, all for responding.   If I were to do a search for files related to Magix by type, then put them all in one folder, would that work?

Hi Eleyan

The real issue here is you need to find out what is making the computer crash - this could be one or more of many possibilities

    -  bad memory, hard drive beginning to fail, processor overheating (fan may be clogged with dust), other software faulting causing memory issues etc.

The computer may need a good overhaul, cleanup and testing to eliminate hardware problems etc.

I will spend a few days searching for each file type and putting all into the one folder.

One thing I noticed when I started doing this is that, I had Chillout vol 6 files which the Main Magix Program would not recognise or pick up despite being moved to the same folder as Hip Hop Vol 13, Rock Alternative Vol 4, Techno Trance Vol 14.

Also, all of the HO files had changed to be openable by Adobe Reader 9.  I accessed Folders in Control Room and changed this to open with Magix Program.    I'll keep at it and return soon.    Eleyan

If it isn't broke and it isn't working, maybe it doesn't exist.

It is intriguing that having re-downloaded the two smaller instruments/demos packs and even clicking on "repair" option I still cannot get Vital or VST files to work while using the Chilout Vol. 6 module.

The Magix program let me reload styles of each module of instruments, including Chillout Vol. 6, but it didn't overwrite, so now I have between 2 and 6 copies of each lot of instruments in there, and still don't have VST or Vital instruments working for the Demos or to use with the Chillout instruments module.  It's now 3am, so I will send a pic to help explain.

Hi

. . . . I usually offload and export Magix Program and files to a secondary drive.  Once this happens, the OS is reinstalled. . . . .I originally moved all files from my main disc(C:) to a storage disc(F:) before the last crash.  I have a copy of MAGIX saved to my C: drive now, . . . .

Can you clarify this - ie are you saying  you copy the Magix programs folder to the storage disc, Reformat the C: drive reinstall Windows and then copy the Magix program back from the storage disc to the Programs folder?

Need lots more clarification...search styles will do nothing for instrument packs....do you mean soundpool styles ?

And I still can't understand all your "crashes'......how much punishment are you willing to take ?
