@johnebaker, some time ago, made some comments regarding some Windows settings that could be adjusted to get maximum performance out of our machines, so I thought I'd ask if he could present a consolidated summary of those settings. For example, in Windows Graphics settings, whether to put the Magix program onto "let Windows decided" or "High performance"

The settings I recommended for Windows Graphics do not apply to the latest versions of VPX and MEP/MMS that have the Device options tab with the Import, Processing, Export options.
You may want to try changing the Power, Performance mode settings - I have them set to Best performance.

That is interesting as that causes a general noticeable slowdown of the programs on my machine. I have now left all my image and sound editing programs to 'let Windows decide' or just not add them at all.
Mainly because setting the programs to Power, Performance mode causes my Intel GPU to sit mainly idling.
This may have changed with using a more modern CPU, I'm not sure.

I've tried every permutation of graphics settings and as far as I'm concerned there is no discernable difference between any of them. Windows 11 has chosen some graphics control settings for a few apps I use but interestingly it's not chosen a setting for MS20.23.
When i'm screen recording i do set gaming mode to on, it does seem to "smooth out" the recordings.
The one Windows setting I do not like is for some reason Windows 11 randomly reinstalls the original drivers for the Intel 770 GPU (Feb 2022) even though I update the drivers with the exe file as recommended by Intel. It seems to happen after a major Windows update.

As I said in my post above the Windows graphics settings are irrelevant for those versions of VPX and MMS/MEP which have their own settings for each of the processes where the GPU will be used.

That can happen if the older driver is still on the system, though not in use.
When updating the Intel driver you should be offered the option of a clean install - this will replace any 'legacy' components which the default install does not replace.
Added: also check the Winows settings, App, Advanced app settings, Choose where to get apps is set to Anywhere, but warn me before installing an app that is not from the Microsoft store

Ooh, I've not seen that, I'll try it tomorrow. EDIT changed to that setting. Time will tell if that's sorted it.
Interestingly, Intel seem to be aware of the problem and say not to use Clean Install (https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000087834/graphics.html). Hmm very odd.

Interesting article from Intel - I used a clean install first time I set up both my laptop and PC and have never had Windows revert it back to the Microsoft version.

At the risk of going off topic, I'm using Windows 11 Home (which seems to basically be controlled by Microsoft) and you have Windows 10 Professional which presumably give you more autonomy.
Maybe that's why?

Yes I have that selected but.
None of the Windows settings makes a difference any more on my system. They are now all equally bad when it comes to render times.
I say equally bad because the last 2 nvidia drivers have each slowed down my rendering speeds a quite a bit more but gives a smoother playback and seemingly as far as I can tell a better quality encode for a given export setting. Not sure if this is because I'm still using Win 10 or because of my hardware.
Vegas Pro 18 has also become more stable with the newer nvidia drivers.
I have tried both the Game Ready driver and Studio driver. The Studio driver seems to be one update behind the Game Ready driver but both give the same render times.

Greetings Al, this is a little odd as the page is still there as it should be but for some reason when just clicking on the link and Magix redirects, the generic page come up. When the link is copied and pasted into a new tab - i.e.bypassing the Magix "You are now leaving the Community" it loads correctly.
edit: If that fails just Google "Windows Update Keeps Rolling Back Graphics Driver to a Previous Version".

I have had this problem in the past with Win 10 Pro and fixed it with the Advanced Setting that excludes "Device Drivers from Automatically updating".

I used the group policy editor although there are various methods mentioned if you google, some of which work.
From the Microsoft Learn files: Manage additional Windows Update settings - Windows Deployment | Microsoft Learn
Do not include drivers with Windows Updates
Allows admins to exclude Windows Update drivers during updates.
To configure this setting in Group Policy, use Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Windows update\Do not include drivers with Windows Updates. Enable this policy to not include drivers with Windows quality updates. If you disable or don't configure this policy, Windows Update will include updates that have a Driver classification.

Unfortunatly I have Windows 11 Home and apparently "Group Policy isn't designed for home users, so it's only available on Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise versions of Windows" so it looks like I'm stuck with it for the moment, although I must admit that the latest drivers 31.0.101.4369 have remained in place for the past week 🙏
It's easy enough to change back though when thay do get overwritten control panel/device manager/display adaptors/intel/properties and roll back driver. It's a faff that should be unnecessary but at least it's quicker than a re-install.

The downside of this is that it puts a total block on updating the driver, not just from Windows Update but also OEM drivers - ie you must remove the registry entires to do the driver update and then redo the procedure again.
IMHO editing the registry to turn on/off blocked driver updates is not without risks, particularly for NVidia drivers which are update regularly.

What about the RTX 2060 drivers, the above driver version number is for the Intel iGPU ?

I have to agree about the registry hack Peter, I read the article and it frightened me. Thanks for the info though.
John, it's only the Intel drivers that are occasionally rolled back by Windows, the RTX drivers have never been overwritten.
The drivers Windows keeps wanting me have appear to be the original ones released by Intel with the CPU/GPU I have. Maybe Intel should have a word with Microsoft.

I wrote above about Windows "randomly" reinstalling old Intel Graphics 770 drivers, well today it's happened again.
I've been on holiday for just over a week and today I turned on the compute and Windows 11 dutifully updated itself to Home 22H2 (KB5027231) and it's rolled back the driver to the original Feb2022 version (I forgot to note the version) from version 31.0.101.4369 that I installed just before I went away.
I've now installed 31.0.101.4502
As those with Windows 11 have probably updated to 22H2 by now, I'm wondering if it's just me or a little more universal?

With both my Intel and NVidia GPU, I did full clean installs the first time after switching to Windows 11 and they have not been replaced by the Windows versions.
