Opening Photo Manager

Monty76 wrote on 10/17/2021, 10:44 AM

When I try to open Photo Manager MX Deluxe I get 'OXA Error' 'The stack reached a maximum depth. (Push)'. If I look at the call stack or ignore it, the program just closes again. So I am unable to open the program. I have been using Photo Manager for years without problems. I tried re-installing the program but the same thing happens. Hoe can I get rid of the call stack that's causing the problem ?

Hi

Have you recently updated or upgraded to Windows 10? If so then the program is too old and is not compatible to run on this version of Windows.

Thank you, John, for your response. I am using Windows 10, and Photo Manager has worked on that platform for a while. I downloaded and installed Photo Manager yesterday, and it has the same problem as the version I already had. Would this latest version not be suitable for Windows 10 ? If not, is there a version that is suitable ?

@Monty76

Exactly which version of PM did you download and install yesterday? The latest release is version 13.1.1.12 (you can find this information under Help>About...).

That is the version I have running, without problem, under Win 10 21H1 so I can happily confirm it is fully compatible with Win 10.

Thanks, Jeff. Unfortunately I am unable to open PM to find what version it is. You may have hit on the problem though, because I downloaded the PM from my Magix account. So, it may have been an old version which came bundled with Movie Edit Pro, and that may have been an old version of Edit Pro. I'm just wondering if I went for a download of my 2021 version of Edit Pro, there might be the option of downloading PM, which ought to be a later one.

Just tried an Edit Pro download, Jeff, and the only other download option given is for Music Maker, not Photo Manager. Is it possible for me to update my version of Photo Manager ?

My best option might be to purchase Xara Photo & Graphic Designer, which is on offer at the moment. Do you know whether it is similar to Photo Manager, as I am very familiar with that ?

Thanks

@Monty76

To answer your questions (in order): Yes, you can update to the latest version of Photo Manager. Simply go to the web page here and choose the Upgrade option.

You would not see PM listed with any recent download of Movie Edit Pro since they are two completely different programs.

XARA Photo and Graphic Designer is a totally different program to Photo Manager. The latter is in essence a database, the former is geared very much to the editing and manipulation of photos and other image objects, including creating original designs. I think you would find the learning curve with XARA PGD to be far beyond what you are currently wanting to do.

Thanks very much, Jeff. I have now downloaded the Photo Manager update. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with Photo Designer, which I found very useful in the old version for making a montage of photos. Maybe Xara PGD has replaced Photo Designer ?

I downloaded the trial version of Xara PGD, and, you're right, there is a lot to learn.
