Opacity level

Nigel-Nicholls wrote on 8/19/2022, 1:27 PM

I am sure It used to be possible to manually edit the Opacity level via the envelope - i have not used the software for approx 2 years and it has been updated a number of times - I used to be a Vegas user and cannot remember if I have got myself confused!! - I cannot find how one can add nodes to the Opacity level envelope - was that possible before? I can do the fade and overall Opacity but I cannot have the fade to my liking, as I could, if I added nodes to control the fade, if you see what I mean.

Also is it possible to add an envelope to control say the level of an effect - the amount of saturation for instance? I am sure (well sort of!) that you used to be able to add envelopes to control certain things.

Many Thanks

Nigel

Hi

Assuming the program you are using is Movie Edit Pro (now called Movie Studio)

. . . . I cannot find how one can add nodes to the Opacity level envelope . . . .

The effect you are looking for is Chromakey, Video level which you can Keyframe to achieve the effect you need.

. . . . is it possible to add an envelope to control say the level of an effect . . . .

Keyframing is one way of controlling many of the effects in the program, the exception is the Section effect, this has to be keyframed after application using the Size Position & Rotation.

Hi

@Nigel-Nicholls commented - ' I used to be a Vegas user ' I assumed this meant Vegas Movie Studio and has now updated to Magix Movie Studio 18 or later?

@johnebaker Hi, yeah i understood, you'd already asked which program so i was just pointing out that envelopes were Vegas & sort of hoping to initiate a reply confirming whether @Nigel-Nicholls was using Magix or Vegas

@Former user

Hi

👍.

It is not unusual for users who have been using the Magix line of video editors for many years after moving across from the likes of Adobe and Sony Vegas to still use the different terminology.

Hi - thanks for the replies - really helpful and appreciated - I started with Sony Vegas many years ago - I can't quite remember but I would say 3.5 or so years ago changed to Movie Edit Pro - they keep changing the name etc but my version (latest update) is Movie Edit Pro Platinum - the issue was I had not used it for a long time so when was trying to use yesterday was getting confused I think - Having to insert chromakey just to have access to a way of replicating a simple envelope seems a bit of a retrograde step - but if that is the only way to do it, cool that's the way it must be done -

Thanks for all the help

Cheers

@Nigel-Nicholls Hi. Movie Edit Pro Platinum & Vegas are completely different programs, when Magix bought Vegas 2017 i think, you might have been caught out with a misleading update that many people did where they were offered a Movie Studio upgrade, the only prob was the upgrade wasn't an upgrade to the next level of the Vegas Movie Studio program but to a Magix Movie Studio, if you want to return to what you are familiar with you're better off going to your Magix account & seeing if you can upgrade to Vegas Edit, Although Movie Edit Pro Platinum is a good program that's fast, faster than Vegas, & the timelines work in a similar way they are quite different.

Hi - That's very helpful and I now understand - pretty sure you are right and whilst I thought I was upgrading my Vegas program, I changed programs!!

I might well contact Magix and see what upgrade they can give me to the latest Vegas program - I know how that works!!!!

Appreciated

Nigel

@Nigel-Nicholls 👍 log in to your account, go to Vegas at the top of the screen - Vegas Edit or Pro it doesn't matter - the screen that pops up - Purchase Here will take you to the bottom, there's 3 boxes Vegas Edit, Pro & Post, Vegas Edit365 there's a down arrow dropdown option & choose the upgrade option - & see what it says when it goes in the Cart?

365 is Subscription but New Licence gives a perpetual licence & Upgrade should just 'upgrade' your existing Perpetual licence...?

@Nigel-Nicholls PS, Magix Movie Studio is a good program, it's fast like i say, i've used it since 2004 & keep it updated each yr, it will do a lot of what Vegas does but you might have to do some things in a different way & some of the tools are less detailed but this is a Magix forum, if you do want to know more about Vegas & ask questions there's a Vegas forum https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/vegas-pro-forum/ If you want continue using Magix Movie Studio & need to know more, you can ask on this forum & there's plenty of Tutorials at the top of the main page 👍

Hi Just wanted to say I worked out the Keyframe function - a bit of a faf but works OK - once you've actually got the key frame onto the clip it works almost as an envelope so all good.

Many Thanks again for the help

Hi

. . . .  I worked out the Keyframe function - a bit of a faf but works OK . . . .

I would agree when moving from one program to another, once they become second nature as using the envelopes did you can do complicated effects etc. eg the intro to this video .

Happy editing
