Numerous Glitches with Movie Edit Pro Plus that make it unusable

jordan-burkhardt wrote on 9/9/2017, 10:55 PM

For reference:

-I am Using Movie Edit Pro Plus, The version I am using doesn't have a year. my Product packaging says it has free updates so I always get the newest version. I am pretty sure I have the 2016 version currently installed, as i Haven't figured out how to do an update. If it helps it is the version with the scuba diver on the box, not the kayak which i believe to be the modern version.

- My computer is up to date and is windows 10, the manufacturer is cyber power PC.

-I have already used the Magix repair tool 3 times, the first time it fixed almost all of my problems and then it got worse within a month. Then i used repair again and it came out worse (will elaborate later), and I am currently doing a repair with little hope.

- I always now click adjust frame rate when the program wants me too to avoid problems. My resolution should be standard, and my video file dimensions vary from iPhone camera to real camera to full screen screen record files size. Update: I am using NTSC HDTV 1080i 16:9 (1920x1080) 29.97 fps.

My Problems:

-Screen Recording

Screen Recording has many bugs such as: Sometimes the file will just be all black and only show my mouse cursor, sometimes the program will give me an error report and say it was corrupted or something. The worst glitch is that whenever I crop or resize a screen recorded video the top and bottom 10% of the space that the video takes up is black, it is almost like i just put a black bar photo file over the top and bottom. This problem has never resolved and has been persistent since I first installed the program.

-Play head Arrow

A few months ago my play head arrow started to not move when I would hit play, when i hit stop it would reappear to how far I got in the video. I used the repair tool and fixed it but last week it started to happen again and i have done two repairs with no luck. This makes editing a pain in the ass, and makes editing audio almost impossible.

-Playback Screen

The playback screen became incredibly choppy yesterday after months of being completely smooth, and I am certain this is not due to my computer. I used to have movie edit pro 2013 and even on my 2015 computer the playback screen was super laggy and choppy. This lead me to purchase the pro version I currently have. Now for no reason the plus version is just as bad.

Solution?

Should I completely uninstall and reinstall? (which i prefer not to do to avoid possibly corrupting my hard drive)

Should I update the program? (and if so how?)

Is there a way to fix this in settings? (i already tried this for the play head in the help section but couldn't find any way.)

Is there a completely different repair?

@jordan-burkhardt

First, I have to say that the range of problems you are experiencing is not common amongst users of the program!

However, before we can even begin to suggest ideas to improve your situation we actually need a lot more information, especially about your computer and the specific version of MEP Plus that you are running. Please read this post and supply ALL the information requested. For the program version, look under Help > About.

We especially need to know the exact version of Win 10 you have, the make and model of your CPU and Graphics card, how much RAM you have installed and how much free space you have on your hard drive(s).

With all this information we may be able to suggest how you should proceed.

Hi

. . . . Screen Recording . . . . Sometimes the file will just be all black and only show my mouse cursor, . . . .

What are you trying to record? Depending on what you are trying to record this will happen, eg if you are trying to record a video on Youtube or game play.

. . . . I crop or resize a screen recorded video the top and bottom 10% of the space that the video takes up is black . . . my video file dimensions vary from iPhone camera to real camera to full screen screen record . . .

Is this happening to specific video files?

Are you maintaining the aspect ratio (AR) of the video to that of the project eg 16:9 when cropping?

Mixing different video and /or image aspect ratios will put black bars top and bottom or left and right depending on the source videos aspect ratio and the projects eg if you mix 16:9 and 4:3 or 5:4 sources into a 16:9 AR project.

To update the program select File, Help, Update online, in the update dialog that Transfer program information option is checked.

This should fix the timeline cursor issue among other things.

. . . . The playback screen became incredibly choppy . . . .

If you have added some effects to objects on the timeline eg rotation and crop these can slow down the rendering for playback and make it choppy.

Are you using Proxy files? The setting is in the project settings, if not this can help with some effects, however not all eg image stabilisation.

We also need more information:

  1. Computer specification - processor make/model, graphics card or chipset, RAM,  hard drive configuration, sizes and free space?

  2. Windows version and is it up to date?  Press and hold down the Windows key and the R key - in the dialog that opens type in winver and press enter.

  3. Software full name and version number - as found under Help, About . . .

  4. Formats and resolutions of the video on the timeline

  5. A screen shot of the timeline may help.

Also please read this post before replying and add any other information you think may be relevant.

Hi

The Playhead not moving and the playback becoming very choppy is a common occurrence in this forum. It is usually a result of a Windows 10 update that has not installed completely because the computer has been "Shutdown" and then "Started" up as opposed to been been "Restarted" - the 2 procedures are different if "Fast Boot" is enabled in Win10, which it is by default, because under this setting the OS only goes into a Hybrid sleep or Hibernation on a "Shutdown".

Just carry out a "Restart" and that should fix those 2 problems.

Ohhh, I've been having this problem lately as well and couldn't get to the bottom of it. I'll bet it's that (although restarting my computer and also uninstalling/reinstalling Magix doesn't seem to have helped at all, so who knows what's going on). It's always Windows 10's fault, isn't it?

Hi

Also check Windows Update History and see if there are any recent updates that have failed. If there have been any Windows installed hardware driver updates since the problem appeared then do a clean manual update from the device manufacturers Website.
