Noise can be a lot of things - static or software-noise.

Basics: check your cables and plugs, make sure they fit and that there are no loose connections.

If it's on the recording. Try to create an mp3 an see if the noise is still there - some noises can be due to your soundcard.

Try to switch to the ASIO-driver ifyou haven't done that.

Hi,
The laptop mic connection is your weakest link - they are not designed for any level of good recording and are not even wired like a standard mic. If you must use your built-in sound card; use the line in (if you have it). Otherwise turn off the +20 DB gain in your Windows sound settings. That will help with some noise.

Also, a lot of music equipment has what is called self noise; this can usually only be remedied by a noise gate in the signal chain. If you are budget conscious I recommend the Behringer Shark - it's a feedback destroyer, compressor and NOISE GATE (among many other features). You WILL NOT be able to use this with a computer mic though - you would have to upgrade to a proper mic before using a noise gate.

You can clean up your existing music with a noise remover plug-in - many free .vst plug-ins are available.

@ calvin-kennedy

Please do not resurrect old topics - this one is 8 years old.

To answer your question:

  1. Look in the installed PDF manual for Music Maker for 'Noise gate'

  2. use Google to search for Noise gate plugin - you will find many VST's that offer this function.
