No sound in MIDI Editor

Leo-vanDelden wrote on 2/11/2021, 1:56 AM

Hello

I have an issue with the MIDI editor. I don't hear any individual sounds when I click on the keyboard or double click.

My version of Music Maker is: 29.0.5.32 64-Bit

Windows 10 Professional

I do get a sound when I click the "play" button though. I had a look on the other support request and somebody else had a same issue.

https://www.magix.info/us/forum/midi-editor-has-no-sound-more--1224878/

This person said you sound change the driver selection in "Audio/Media" settings to "ASIO Driver". For me this doesn't work. It actually stops all MIDI sounds.

So I put this setting back to "Wave Driver".

How can I make the MIDI editor work?

Thanks for your help.

Leo

Hi

We more information on you computer specification see this topic for details of what is required - please put the info in your profile signature for future reference.

Are you using the computers onboard audio chip or an external audio device?

If using the onboard and it is a Realtek these are the settings that work for me:

Note: if you are using the onboard audio ensure that you are using the motherboard manufacturers drivers. I had an issue with Windows installing its version of the Realtek drivers which were a 'dumbed down' set with many of the advanced features not available.

Hi John

Thank you for your help.

I have tried your settings and it still doesn't play the MIDI sounds.

Here are some screen shots for you to see what settings I have.

Hope this helps.

Hi

Thanks for the images.

What is the default Sound output device in Windows, Sound settings?

Did you try turning on the UE Mini Boom in the Advanced settings?

Here's a guess. The midi data looks like it might have been imported. The instruments set for the tracks are drums and these will have a small note range on the keyboard. Perhaps the notes are out of range of the drum instrument. You can look at the drum midi editor from the midi editor window. A quick test would be to load a non drum instrument.

@Leo-vanDelden

In addition to @Graham-Hawker comment - well spotted Graham - about Rock Drums being selected, on the right side under Instruments I see only one Instrument available - Revolta 2 and this does not have a Rock Drums Metal or the Rock Drum Arena options.

Is this (are these) third party VST(s) that you have installed?

Yes I bought the "Rock Drums" instruments, but I had issues with this as well. I could only add them to the track with clicking the + sign on the left side. The instruments that I downloaded and installed are not appearing on the right side. Here is some history about that in previous support thread https://www.magix.info/us/forum/adding-instuments--1267134/

About the note range: When I click play in the MIDI editor I can see and hear the notes that are being played of the drum instruments. But when I double click on a note I should here the drum sound for this note and that is NOT working.

@Leo-vanDelden

Hi

from your other post . . . .changing the driver selection in Music Maker settings / "Audio/MIDI" to "Direct Sound". . . .

Unfortunately this does not work when editing in the MIDI Editor

Download and install ASIO4All, start Music Maker and in the Program Settings, Audio Midi Tab set ASIO4 All as the ASIO driver

. . . . But when I double click on a note I should here the drum sound for this note and that is NOT working . . . .

A single click is required to play a note in the MIDI Editor.

Hi John

I have downloaded and installed this driver and no luck with this either.

Not with a double click or single click.

Here are some screen shots.

I fixed this by reinstalling Windows 10 Professional. After that everything worked as expected.

Thanks for all your help.
