New purchase is crashing

Tom-Dussek wrote on 11/15/2023, 3:06 AM

I've just bought Movie Studio 2024 Platinum and it crashed when I open it. I have a version of Movie Studio 14 Platinum on my PC, which I can't uninstall, and has the error "The is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor" Could this old version be conflicting with the new one because of this missing DLL?

Also, I can't send the crash log because "There may not be a connection to the internet". Which there is, obviously...

@Tom-Dussek

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Could this old version be conflicting with the new one because of this missing DLL?

Highly unlikely since Movie Studio 14 and Magix Movie Studio 2024 are wholly different programs. The former is part of the Vegas range of products, the latter is a rebadged version of Magix Movie Edit Pro.

It should not be necessary to uninstall your older version but if you wish to do so this Microsoft article will almost certainly help. Failing that, you could try the free Revo Uninstaller to completely remove the older program. I use the Pro version of the same app (the free one should be more than adequate for what you need) and I know other users here find it similarly very useful.

It is possible, given the error message you show, that your firewall/antivirus is blocking the connection between your computer and the Magix servers. Try again to open/run the program, with these disabled if you can.

If you are still unsuccessful, please read this post and give us as much information as you can about your computer, hardware, software, hard discs, RAM, GPU etc., etc.

Hi

We need more information to help diagnose the issue(s) you are having:

The specification of your computer system including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required, and please quote processor and graphics card make/model in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s) you are working with if this is a laptop.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature, so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the graphics card/integrated GPU drivers up to date?

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
