Sure is: 56 cores ?, Intel say threads (28 cores) , 3TB RAM, 48TB storage, great spec to this point however the killer is a NVidia Quado P6000 graphics card - so no good for HWA - price tag 'unknown' however the CPU alone is about $10000+

Check that the Surface Pro is correctly registered with Magix.

Ever considered a Sony Handycam FDR-AX100E, I have been looking at one of these as a replacement for when my video camera fails.

Hi John EB,

Scroll to the bottom of the page about the HP computers:

"Prices are starting at $2,439 for the Z8 Workstation, $1,919 for the Z6 Workstation, and $1,239 for the Z4 Workstation. The Z8 and Z6 will be available in October 2017, while the Z4 will be made available in November."

Far from 10k+.

My Surface Pro 4 was registered when the SN was in the About screen. The registration disappeared after applying patch 176. Solution from Support today is to uninstall using the MS tool and reinstall.

The Sony camera is too rich for my blood. Divide by 10. My wife reminded me that I dropped the video camera on the ground in Paris 6 years ago, first trip with the new camera, and once again in Edinburgh where both the camera and I hit the ground. The camera still worked, as did I, but my coat has a hole in the elbow. Thus I am loath to carrying around an expensive camera. I hope the prices drop, soon.

I am continuing on in Compatibility mode on my desktop. Seem to work for now. Support has no idea as to the problem. We'll see with the next patch.

I posted the following before, but no one picked up on it and Magix can't produce it.

I am able to reproduce this insert problem on both computers in VPX (patch 176 and prior patches)
and strangely in MEP2016+ on my Surface Pro but not on my desktop computer. I could not reproduce this in VPX7 on either machine. The process in VPX is simply, on a blank timeline, select a video clip 1 from Import media pool, press 1, select another video clip, press 1. On the timeline, press F to see the full timeline, Alt+W to set playback marker at the interface of clips 1 and 2, select clip 3 in Import, press on 2. I consistently get a gap after the insert, equal to the length of the inserted clip.

Could some of you please try this in VPX to see what you get?

Thanks,

John CB

Hi John CB

I am not seeing the insert issues using the 2 key.

I am using the following method:

  1. Position timeline cursor to insert position
  2. Select object in media pane
  3. Press 2 key to insert.

is this the sequence you are using which creates the extra gap?

OT - Z8 system:

I agree with the prices quoted, however they are 'starting from' prices.

What is the base system for these starting prices? Certainly not the fully 56 core, 3TB RAM, 48TB storage and NVidia Quadro 9600 system.

Based on current prices and a few assumptions:-

  • Dual Zeon 28 core Z8 series chips ~ $10000 ea retail

  • 256GB RAM chips ~ $3800 retail

  • 16TB hard drives ~ $500 ea retail

  • NVidia Quadro 9600 ~ $3800 retail

Assume these are bought in at 10% of the above prices then $10000+ for a fully loaded system is feasible.

Hi John CB

I get the same as you using 2 key "Insert Track" but not if I use 3 key "Insert as a New Range". VPX .171.

Solution from Support today is to uninstall using the MS tool and reinstall.

Do they mean just the patch or the program too?

We had this 0days thing back a while with an early patch in VPX8 didn't we. That MS tool saved the day and I recently put a German member on to it who was very happy.
