Needing to restart normal? Audio hardware out

I must be asking a FAQ. I tried but didn't find an answer.

I've been struggling to make sound happen for a few days 30 minutes at a time. Starting with the software keyboard and a VSTi instrument, I've managed to hear sound through this process (no recording yet):

1. Change my Windows 10 system playback device to Realtek High Definition Audio Speaker. That is the sound card in my motherboard.

2. Use Magix Low Latency 2016 driver system

3. In device info, find Realtek HD Audio output, crossed out.

4. Restart Samplitude.

5. In device info, find Realtek HD Audio output is not crossed out.

6. Select Realtek HD Audio HD output, and hear no sound.

7. Restart Samplitude

8. In device info, find Realtek HD Audio output is selected and finally I hear sound.

Is that normal? Or, am I accidentally doing something by restarting that I should have done in the first place.
