My video is freezing when I try to export it. (MP4)

@Tony-Rapisarda It's hard to say whether the black scenes will be in the exported video, it could be the true image that's being exported & so will be in the exported video, or it could be that the preview isn't able to keep up with the export & has glitched as yo say,

My PC is a lot more powerful than yours & if I saw black screen it would mean there's a problem, I very very rarely have to deal with anything like that so can't really advise, sorry.

How long is the movie that you're exporting?

@Tony-Rapisarda

Hi

Some clarifications for you:

  • GTX 1650Ti .......... I just want to say that's a camera I plugged into my laptop

    The GTX 1650 Ti is a graphics chip in your laptop and has nothing to do with the plugged in webcam

  • the folder my saves/media for the video are in says that there are 644 files contained in it

    The program generates 2 support files with file extensions .H0 and .HDP for each video clip imported, they are in the same folder as the video as shown below, they have the same name as the video clip that has been imported.

    The .H0 and .HDP files can be deleted when you have finished a project they will be regenerated if you go back to a project in the future.

  • AVC

    You may know this as h.264 which is the most universally supported format, similarly HEVC is also known as h.265 As @Gid has commented these are both MP4 - MP4 is not a video format, it is a 'container' file format, by analogy it is the video equivalent of a tin can 😄

  • What does the Codec do?

    A codec is a Compressor Decoder that performs, some complex mathematics to compress, the size of the video, and the Decoder part takes that encoded video and mathematically expands it to reproduce the original image. Without codecs, the video files sizes will be huge. For example a 10 second 1920 x 1080 25fps clip encoded without compression is approximately 1.5GB in size, the same clip h.264 encoded it is approx 23 MB. Both h.264 and h.265 are codec standards of which there are many more you may come across.

. . . . some of videos show up as a black screen . . . .

This may be an artefact of converting video from Variable Frame Rate (VFR) - a lot of mobiles record this way - to Constant Frame Rate (CFR). Many video editors do not always process VFR video correctly.

Try stepping through the video clip on the timeline, if you see a black frame it is in the video and can be cut out.

If the black screen occurs between two clips or an image and a clip check for very small gaps - Movie Studio may warn you of empty spaces, here is an example of a 1 frame gap:

@Gid @johnebaker

Thank you for the clarifications Johnebaker.

I managed to get through the exporting successfully 2 times, however the first time some of the audio was removed during exporting.

The 2nd time, most of the audio is offset by 1-15 seconds. Any ideas on how to fix this? I can export it without freezing and working fully now, but it's not doing it correctly.

Hi

. . . . send me videos that they took that come in HEVC form . . . . The 2nd time, most of the audio is offset by 1-15 seconds. Any ideas on how to fix this? . . . .

This would suggest that some or all of the video files are Variable frame rate which are known to cause sync issues with audio.

This is where the MediaInfo data analysis of the video clips is useful, see this tutorial on setting up and analyse the clips you are importing.

In the Video section of the analysis, if you see the line:

Frame rate mode: Variable

then they need converting to Constant Frame Rate.

Which video converter do you have, and do the video files you have converted show they are Constant frame rate in MediaInfo?

@johnebaker

I'm having some trouble getting MediaInfo to work.

The file converter I use it called Zamar.

Would there not be a way to set the video to "Constant Frame Rate" in the MAGIX studio?

@Tony-Rapisarda

What issue are you having with MediaInfo?

. . . . Would there not be a way to set the video to "Constant Frame Rate" in the MAGIX studio? . . . .

The video should be Constant frame rate before importing into MMS, particularly when the range of variability is high eg as in this sample of one of my mobile phone videos

Frame rate mode                          : Variable
Frame rate                               : 29.836 FPS
Minimum frame rate                       : 14.963 FPS
Maximum frame rate                       : 31.469 FPS

When exporting you have no option but constant frame rate.

. . . . The file converter I use it called Zamar. . . . .

Do you mean the Zamzar online video converter?

If so this does produce Constant Frame rate video from Variable, however it does decrease the Bit rate significantly ie I gave it a 20 Mb/s VFR video file, the conversion to MOV 'downgraded' it to 5.57 Mb/s, this can lead to some quality loss depending on the scene detail level and/or action in the video.

The converted file imports into MMS with no issues.
