My Effects will not load. Every time I try to bring the Video and Audio effects window up the program freezes up. What to do?

When I try to load any of the effects, the bar below keeps flashing Reading Directory" but it just keeps flashing and will not stop until I start the task manager and shut the program down. I tried letting it take its time, also restarting the computer, but with the same results. Suggestions?

What version of Movie Edit Pro are you running and on what operating system? Can you include a few more details about your system specifications and configuration?
