MusicMaker 2020 - Totally depressed - All my own fault

Nickillus wrote on 7/16/2019, 11:00 AM

Hands up straight away. My system is fritzy, so a lot of this is probably my own fault - however I don't have issues like this with any other software.

I had a lot of issues last year with the MusicMaker 2019 update. Firstly it wouldn't load for ages, with a tendency to stall or wig out half way through the process. When eventually I did get it loading, it would crash or freeze a lot after minimal use. On the plus side it recognised some third part vst's that previous versions hadn't.

I ended up turning to Samplitude Music Studio, which has proven much more stable, but doesn't recognise a number of the Magix instruments from Music Maker. Some it does, and they have kept me going.

Launched MusicMaker 2019 today for the first time in ages to find a new update available - not only that but the new 2020 version - Woohoo, thought I! Perhaps some of the foibles that turned me off MM will be sorted? Ahem!

It has taken me 17 attempts to launch before the software actually loaded, taking anywhere from five to fifteen minutes each time and declaring that Music Maker had stopped working on six of those attempts. To be fair I think this is Magix dealing with my bloated vst folder, packed with third party effort of various description. That I can live with and understand.

The thing I do not understand is why MusicMaker 2020 has now deactivated all 38 of my Magix instruments, stating it can now longer find the relevant libraries? A number of these I purchased as solo instruments at about £40 a pop. I watched some of the installation process where it was reporting uninstalling them supposedly to reinstall them where it CAN find them. DNe1 has disappeared altogether.

Curiously this does not seem to have affected the libraries used in Samplitude. It has however buggered up the sound on my system, until I can track down what settings it has decided to auto change.

They have removed the 'activation' option from the help menu now, which previously might have allowed me to reload the intruments, so that's brilliant. So much for improving the situation. I had hoped an update like this would turn things around and draw me back to MM.

For anyone else experiencing similar hollow feelings, Samplitude Music Studio is great and a similar price. If I didn't have that working I would now be pulling the last of my hair out over this.

Sooner or later I'll need to go to support to have them lead me by the hand (they are great too) through what will no doubt be a long winded and tedious process to reinstate the instruments one by one, that should be available automatically. It was like that the last time something similar happened.

Very disappointed with Music Maker and the chaos installing it leaves in its wake.

Hi

. . . . The thing I do not understand is why MusicMaker 2020 has now deactivated all 38 of my Magix instruments, stating it can now longer find the relevant libraries? . . . .

Music maker 2020 is a new install rather than just upgrading the previous version.

Have you done the following:

  1. Logged back in to the Store - if not existing Instruments, Soundpools etc you have purchased will not be available.

  2. Activated previous editions with their serial number in Help, Activate edition .... - this should have happened automatically.

  3. Downloaded and installed all you previous content.

From your previous posts it would appear that you are the only one experiencing all the issues you are having.

This would suggest there is something going on with your PC that is causing the issues, it may be your Antivirus/Firewall software, a rogue program or a corruption of Windows 7. IMHO a total wipe and re-install of Windows and your programs would be the surest way of ensuring everything is OK.

Thanks for all that John. I'm sure it's my system having a party with Magix protocols. And with your keen eyes on my system (how do you do that?), I now notice that I'm not logged into the store. Previously that wouldn't load without being logged in, so I didn't spot it. Duh! MM now activated.

I've found DN-e1 and downloaded it - again. Can't see any of my instruments in the store, but am busy updating Vita for now. And voila - the instruments have reanimated within MM by themselves. It was all down to me not spotting the unlogged in store status. it's a good job I'm so technically adept! - cough.

My thanks again, John. The depression is suddenly lifted completely. I'll just sit with an innocent smile on my face for a while . . . . . . . .

Hi

. . . . . And with your keen eyes on my system (how do you do that?), . . . .

I had to do exactly the things I posted last week - with the exception of a rebuild - that is on the cards as soon as I change over to SSD drives. 😱.

Pleased to hear things are coming back together.

Actually, there are others having the same issues...but we are spending more time trying to figure it out rather than chat on here.
