Thank you nihon94 for your response. I guess I will wait until I hear from Magix support about this before I try anything else. I looked at your PDF and it may help me later, but as far as I can tell the Premium version is fully downloaded and installed on my system. (Other components, like the screen grabber and the separate wav editor work. Only the actual MM program will not unlock - giving me the message decribed above.

I did not have the MM16 version first like you did - I downloaded the Premium version directly from the Magix site and then installed it following directions from a link in the email Magix sent me containing the serial number. As my machine is new, there was no other Magix software already installed on it. (I have MM12 on an older XP PC and it still works fine.)

So I will trust Support to get back to me. I know there is a way to unlock the MM program with a key (not the same as the serial number) which Magix sends to people who register by fax. Hopefully they will send me such a key and I can unlock it soon.

Thanks again!

Hi,

Thank you for information.
Right now I got response from Magix to my problem as I said they work in week days and it starts from today therefore, I am sure you will get answer too.

Thank you

Right after I wrote you back here I also got an answer from Support. Had to send them a computer ID that the program generates on a fax form for people who don't register online. Haven't heard back from them since, but, like you said, they did answer so I'm pretty sure I'll get results pretty soon. I'll try to document the solution here later for anyone else that runs into this problem.

Hi,

I am Glad you got response.

Whenever you get response from Magix by e-mail, without changing subject line you can add your message and could include screen shot, video clip to support problem in detail. By doing so you could exchange e-mails unless your problem is solved.

I like your idea of documenting solution for others. I suggest do that in Knowledge and Workshop.

Thank you

Magix support came through with the unlock key and instructions where to enter it and I unlocked the program successfully. I then followed their instructions to download the additional 6 files and installed them and successfully integrated them into MM16.

Including the original MM16 program file download, the complete package of 7 files came to 2.64 GB, so potential online buyers will need a high speed connection.

I first contacted Magix Support about the problems discussed here on Friday, so not counting the weekend I'd give them at least a B+ for response time. As nihon94b pointed out they work Mon-Fri. (The secret to this kind of thing is usually patience.)

I took a look around and I am pleased to see some familiar menu items, synths and effects, even file types. The changes since MM12 are impressive and I'll have to spend a lot of time before I can feel as comfortable as I did with the older version but I can see now that MM16 Premium was well worth the price and even waiting for the solution to my installation problem.

I can't really say what caused the problem, but I suspect that because I was already a Magix customer, the program was registered automatically when I bought it online and the registration wizard inside the program wasn't prepared for that and needs to be updated to reflect that situation. In other words, it probably rejected my attempt to register because the program was already registered and should at least present a response like "This program is already registered. Please contact Magix Support." Instead it fell through to the only available error message, which said I wasn't online.

I will write this up again later for the Knowledge and Workshop area as nihon94b suggested.
