Mp4 output problems after update to MEP 13

RogerGunkel wrote on 4/13/2013, 5:48 AM

I haven't been on th Q&A since the change over a while ago, nice to see some familiar names still here:-)

I upgraded from MEP MXplus to 2013plus a few days ago after reading the promotion email regarding much faster speeds for editing, previewing, rendering etc. I have to say that having paid for the upgrade I am surprised and disappointed to find that in fact it seems to be considerably slower.

I do quite a lot of 3d editing from twin AVCHD cameras and have been writing to an H264 output file. After carrying out a comparison test I found that the same original footage output to a file with the same parameters set in both programmes, resulted in a 30 second 3d clip taking 4.09 mins in MX with a clear and sharp playback The same footage in MEP 2013 output with the same settings, took 12.23 mins with a stuttering, green tinged and very pixellated playback that was unusable.

I have repeated the test several times with the same result, so could anyone please offer some explanation as I am baffled.

The editing is on an Acer Aspire 5738 DZG with Intel PentiumT4400, and 4GB ram memory. Graphics card is ATI Mobility Radeon HD4750. I have previously edited many hours of 3d footage on this system using MEP MX and previously MEP 17Plus with no problems apart from being a little slow as expected from the spec. I expected MEP 2013 to be quicker though.

Magix suggested that I may have enabled the hardware acceleration on graphics card option, but I haven't. They ignored my comment regarding inability to write a useable output file, merely saying that 2013 shouldn't be slower!

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Many Thanks,

Roger Gunkel

Hi Roger

Nice to see you back.

I have been 'playing around' with 3D in MEP 2013 and I have no problems with quality when exporting to 3D side by side AVCHD or Blu-ray.

Do you have the Hardware acceleration turned on in the program settings?

I have found a problem when using this and turning on GPU acceleration for standard transitions option in the export/burn dialogs when you have the Hardware Acceleration turned on in the program settings - I did report this to Magix as a bug report some time ago.

Also see this topic for a discussion on this topic and on page 2, my own personal findings on speed comparisons - though not 3D

John.

Hi John and thanks for the reply :-)

I don't have Hardware Acceleration turned on so that's not the problem. What I am having difficulty understanding is why I can load MX18 and write the AVCHD file out to mp4 and it plays fine. I then load 2013, use the same piece of AVCHD footage and write to mp4 using the same settings and it is highly pixellated, jumping and with green areas to the screen.

Having just tried it again, I have also noticed that the desktop icon associated with the 2013 mp4 file is different to the  icon for the MX file. Properties for both files show the same basic information, with Stereo Player as the default playback programme. The different desktop icon would suggest that 2013 is writing something different to MX.

Any further thoughts?

Roger

Hi Roger

Have you patched MEP 2013 to the latest version 12.0.2.2.UDC2 ?

Can you give me your export settings so I can try and replicate the issue.

John

Hi John,

I just checked the programme and it is 12.0.2.2

I have added a dropbox link which has screengrabs of the export settings for MX and 2013. There are also two 30 sec files written from the 2 prgrammes to the settings shown.

Hi Roger

I have not been able to reproduce this problem using your settings - what setting did you use for the Side by side?

I have tried with Side by side left image frst full width and half width.

The half width verion was okay, however, the full width version created a file which I cannot open or delete however I believe this may be related to a rogue security update from a few days ago which is affecting the NTFS file system - see here  because I get a Access denied error on the file.

The only differences in the settings you used to what I normally use are in the Advanced video settings AVC preset - I use High, you have selected AVCHD and I have a GOP setting of 33 against yours of 30.

Many thanks for the efforts John, I'll try the high setting tomorrow when I have finished my current editing.
