MP4 codec has to be purchased with MEP 2016?

Kami_1 wrote on 10/29/2015, 8:29 PM

I just installed MEP 2016 (with disk) on my new computer, no previous version installed.  I went to Help - Install extra content.  When I selected mpeg-4-codec -- which I assume is the same as mp4 -- it took me to a web page which said I have to purchase it.

Is this accurate, or did I miss something in the installation?

Thanks.

Hi Kami,

Did you purchase the basic version or one of Plus/¨Premium. I think that you have to pay extra with the basic version.

Hi Kami

The default codecs for MP4 are the Intel HD codecs, however if you have a computer that is not an Intel i series with integrated graphics then you have to purchase the MainConcept codec.

This change was introduced with MEP 2015.

@ John CB - this applies to all versions.

No John, the Intel codec works fine even if you don't have an Intel CPU. Even on my AMD machine I can work with either codec.

Hi Markus

Thank you for the correcton - I was given to understand, on a different forum, that the Intel HD video codecs were specific to Intel processors with integrated graphics.

Do Magix products install them if not present on the computer?

Cheers

Of course, the Intel codec is part of the Magix software.

I think, the Intel codec is optimized for use with Intel processors with integrated graphics. But it also runs on other hardware - a bit slower maybe.

Markus

Why did they do that?

My computer is Intel i7-5930K.  The graphics card is not integrated.

Okay, thanks.  It worked -- for free -- when I began to export to mp4.  The previous time, it was on the selection list from where I activated Mercalli.
