I'm using Audio Studio 15 build 47 on Windows 10 Pro 64-bit 20H2 19042.844
I get the above error when trying to open an MP3.
Is that for real? MP3 is unsupported? That can't be right. It's only the most common audio format on the planet. How can an audio editor not support MP3?
Is there a way to fix this?

This is a relatively common complaint with Magix Sound Forge and Vegas. Sound Forge 15 should open and encode MP3 files w/o issue. I am not aware of a one-size-fits-all fix., but I would recommend uninstall and reinstall. Also, make sure the PC is connected to the internet the first time an MP3 is opened and encoded as the MP3 codec needs to be initially activated, which is otherwise automatic.
Search this and the Magix Vegas Pro forums for other recommendations and info. You could also contact Magix Tech Support if all else fails.

I've recently upgraded to the current version of SF15. I've reset preferences and delete the cache. I am still getting MP3 as an 'unsupported format' message.
Audacity and Media Player can read and play the files. I is a PITA to have to read them in with Audacity and write them out as .wav files. I've got 36 45 minutes files to clean up. SF15 should have no problem with MP3 files. It is not as if it is a new or obscure format.
HI @daudioguy, assuming you have Sound Forge Audio Studio-15 and have updated to build 121, Confirm that the file <mp3plug2.dll> exists in the folder path "C:\Program Files\SOUND FORGE\SOUND FORGE Audio Studio 15.0\FileIO Plug-Ins\mp3plug2" If it does not, I can give you a link to download it.
Otherwise, try re-installing Sound Forge. In this case, I would recommend uninstalling SFAS using a third-party utility like 'Revo Uninstall' which can remove left-over registry entries and other pertinent data the OS uninstall leaves behind which can cause an issue to reoccur. I would use the advanced scan mode so beware of removing shared files from another version of (Magix) Sound Forge (if installed), After uninstalling, restart the PC and reinstall SFAS.
btw, Revo Uninstall is highly regarded and often recommended by support folks. There are pro and freeware versions of Revo, the free version is adequate in most cases.
