movie studio 2023 suite - 4k video edits

@CubeAce

Ray, I don't see how that is relevant here. Proxies dramatically speed up editing performance. That's all wee need to know.

MEP/MMS can be forced to "proxy-ise" all files: put them on the timeline, then in Movie Settings, tick "create proxies". This overcomes the bug where only the first file will be proxied, even if the subsequent files are the same type.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

HI Ray

. . . . nvidia graphics as well but I can't see what it is . . .

It is a GTX 900 M series - if it is a 940 or higher than it does support HWA for h.264/AVC however not h.265/HEVC.

Proxy files are normally 960 x 540 px for 16:9 AR - you can check by loading the proxy MXV file on to the timeline

Hi Al.

Some of Brian's video files are not that large or look difficult to handle and the manual clearly states that files that are not as high resolution as the xmv files would not be created. It could be that producing all files mxv for the purpose of playback may result in files with the same frame rates and resolutions and therefore help. I don't know as my own project files I tend to keep to the same file formats, frame speeds for each project. But you stated.

Ray, I doubt it is the program changing. MXVs are MXVs are MXVs.

and I'm pointing out that is clearly not true as far as the file sizes and resolution are concerned.

@johnebaker

Hi John.

That used to be true when I could choose my file sizes in the previous versions but now all I ever get are the same resolution mxv files. which are a standard 1920 x 1080 pixel size.

Ray, I can tell you that the manual is wrong. You can use the procedure I have already described to create proxies on any file (at least of the types I've tried being MagicYUV AVI, DV, H264, H265, MPEG 2). As mentioned a few times previously, the function is borked because it will throw a message saying proxies are necessary for the second and subsequent files when in fact they are. The simplest way to get them set up is as I described earlier.

and I'm pointing out that is clearly not true as far as the file sizes and resolution are concerned.

I was referring to their purpose. Their size and res are irrelevant to the user.

That used to be true when I could choose my file sizes in the previous versions but now all I ever get are the same resolution mxv files. which are a standard 1920 x 1080 pixel size.

No. A 720x576 DV-AVI proxies to 320x288. A 3840x2160 MP4 proxies to 960x540. I think the now-current max size (960) has been discussed before.

We're getting sidetracked. All @spuddy13 needs to know is proxies are available and they work well for speedy editing.

Hi Al.

My images are from previous manuals.

I do not have either of the new versions of MMS or VPX and not suffering the latest rounds of bugs.

As for the proxy files working, you may be correct but I personally have not always found they helped.

We will have to wait for the relevant reply.

Ray.

THANKYOU FORUM FAMILY

Folks,

I cannot thank you enough for your time

Hopefully I have not missed anyone so thankyou to all who responded

CUBEACE 🎥

GID 🎥

AAPRODS 🎥

JOHNEBAKER 🎥

I printed off your suggestions applied them all over weekend

and i can now edit without jitter my 4k video camera & 4k drone videos

i also learned during our journey that the videos i took from drone and placed on my nas storage to view on my 4k tv were the phone (drone monitor) low resolution copys and your detective work highlighted this and pointed me to the drone 4k copy on sd card, i would never have pulled videos from there. (stupid)

I am now so happy i can edit my 4k holiday film add titles, transitions and music

i will look into replacing my pc in 2024 so i have a fast machine without proxies etc

so again thankyou for your time and knowledge

Regards
