Movie Studio 18 platinium Hardware encoding not working.

Roivas wrote on 7/24/2021, 12:56 PM

Hi,

I just got Movie Movie Studio 18 platinium. I was using Movie Studio 17 platinium so far & hardware encoding was working just fine.

Now I've to spend 4 extra hours to make the same video. I tried both MPEG 4 & HEVC (I had to buy this codec btw & It's not working either...), I've enable hardware encoding in the advanced setting & when I start to export, the box "mixing down" says "no hardware encoding" ...

I have :

Windows 10 20H2 built 19042.1110

Intel i7-6700K

16 GO of RAM

Nvidia RTX 3090

I hope you have a solution, I'm kinda upset, I just spend 50 € in a software that is not working as good as the old one.

Thx for your help & excuse my english

Hi Roivas. Welcome to the user to user forums.

In the playback section of the program settings have you enabled both the Intel GPU and nvidia graphics card?

Also on export make sure you tick both boxes for using hardware acceleration on the main page and in the advanced properties.

Also have you got the nvidia Studio drivers? The game drivers do not work for video editing.

Ray.

Hi, thx for you answer.

So I had all the same options as you (standard mode +, nvidia RTX 3090 for me) but the "calculate video effect" on your second picture . I tried with it but it's still doesn't work.

Also, I changed my nvidia drivers to studio, also does nothing.

I've also checked the option for hardware in the import/export tab, just in case ^^;

I'm making a 50 min video, with video sutdio 17 it ask me around 2.5 /3 hours, with 18 it takes my 8+ hours :/

@Roivas

If you are exporting with titling at the front, this slows down the initial export and is reflected in the estimated export time which will dynamically change as you get to straightforward encoding of clips and the estimated export time normally tumbles. Added effects can also effect export times depending on what they are.

I don't know why you are not getting hardware encoding. The program should be able to use the Intel HD 530 Graphics chip as well as the nvidia which should also be able to use the nvidia studio driver.

Are you sure both graphics chips are enabled in the bios? Do you have two monitors or are you using a headless ghost in one of the graphics ports?

Do both GPUs show in the Task manager as being used during export?

I have just realised that if you are importing HEVC files into MEP you need the Windows HEVC playback codec as well as the Magix video encoder for rendering. Have you downloaded the Windows HEVC codec from the Windows store?

I'm assuming you have used a third party video player such as VLC for playback of files within Windows that does not need the Windows HEVC codec. If you can play back your Video files in Windows Film and TV then something funny is going on.

@CubeAce

The video I'm making is really the simplest thing in the world, I'm just assembling multiple videos I recorded from a video game with shadowplay to make only one.

The only effect I use is color & contrast. Not over effect of any kind.

I have only 1 GC (no intel thing) & only one monitor. My graphic card is enabled, no problem there.

When I'm exporting with Video studio 18, the GPU is not used at all, only the CPU, ans that's the problem. It happens with both MPEG 4 & HEVC encoding.

I let movie studio work before I went to sleep last night, & when I woke up this morning, 7h of encoding was done & 12 hours remaning, not sure if it's because of the change i made following you advice with the calculate video effect option or Studio driver or something else but it's worst than before ^^; .

Meanwhile, the "exact" same project with Movie studio 17 show GPU is used

Studio 17 says my video will be finished in less than 2 hours ...

I really thing the problems comes from Movie Studio 18 & not my computer :/

CubeAce wrote on 7/25/2021, 4:37 AM

@Roivas

You are completely correct. Your new program will only use the Intel GPU for hardware encoding acceleration on export. The nvidia card will only use it's hardware for 3D rendering, hence the need to have both GPUs to be enabled. Despite the name, Movie Studio 18 is no longer produced by the Vegas team but is a re-branded version of Movie Edit Pro with a few small changes developed by the Magix software team. It uses a completed different export procedure. If you are only running one monitor you can enable the Intel GPU by either plugging your monitor into the motherboards video export socket or adding a headless ghost to fool the socket a monitor is present. The alternative to that would be to take up the Vegas offer of a cheaper upgrade to Movie Pro 18 Edit as mentioned on this Vegas forum topic.

Wow ok, that's really a bad news, I already upgraded form 17 platinium to 18 platinium for 50€ & now, to upgrade to 18 pro it's 249 € more...

I should never get 18 platinium in the first place then, not gonna spend 249 € for an hardware acceleration :/

I will just keep using 17, I just lost 50€ ...

That's really a stupid decision they made here ... :/.

Anyway, thx a lot for your time & your help.

Hi.

You could try emailing sales@magix.net and tell them the program was not what you expected and could they please swap it out for MS18 Pro Edit which has for a very short period a cross grade offer of nearer $90 for MS17 users, or just ask for a refund and continue with MS17. They will ask you first to deactivate and de-register your copy of MS18 before giving a refund but I have in the past swapped out an accidental wrong purchase.
