Movie edit pro won't play audio on avi files

I make movie reviews for a website, and I thought it'd be time to re-edit my back catalogue.  While all my video files from my camcorder are fine and edit really well in Movie edit pro plus (version 18), my .avi files of my review segments will not play with sound.  I've installed the AC3 filter, and I've got VLC video player - and they work fine on that. They just won't play audio on the editor, and I've no idea what to do! Any hints :)?

Hi

An AVI file is a container file - you need to find out what is inside it.

Using GSpot analyse one of the avi files to find out which codecs are inside the file.

Click the blue buttons under MS/AV bottom left of the GSpot screen to see if the file can be rendered and which codecs are used.
