Movie edit pro 17 plus can't correctly determine the blank dvd disc

livingston59 wrote on 11/25/2015, 9:59 PM

MEP 17+ doesn't correctly recognize the blank dvd in the drive when attempting to burn a movie. I have blank -R dvd but MEP 17+ claims it is +R dvd.

So when I try to burn themovie an error stops the process.

There isn't any option to select the correct dvd type.

How do I fix this? I can't find anything in the help or knowledge base.

I am running Windows 7 64

Hi

. . . . I have blank -R dvd but MEP 17+ claims it is +R dvd. . . . .

What brand discs are these?

. . . . So when I try to burn themovie an error stops the process. . . . .

What is the error message?

When the error message appears there is an option to view the burn log - open this scroll to the end of the log - there you will see the Error line(s).

Copy from the error to the start of that burn session - indicated by a line with the date and time on it - and paste the information back here.

The brand of dvd is Verbatim dvd-R.

This morning I tried to burn the dvd again to get the error message but it didn't comeup with an error. Instead it only recorded about 15 minutes of an hour and a half movie.

Has anyone put together instructions on how to use this software?

Please don't waste my time telling me to watch the you tube videos Magix has put out because they are complete garbage. They only have a couple for version 17 and those have absolutely no details on how to actually use the software. They are just promotional videos and they have no value.

As I stated in my other answer, there is a 387 page pdf manual that comes with MEP 17. Do not try to do everything without first reading the manual. Read the Chapter called Quick start and follow along on the screen.

Also, watch my tutorial on getting started to make sure that you have everything downloaded and set up. Even though it's for 2015, it is still pertinent to older versions (and newer).

Thanks, John. I have been reading the manual. But it isn't very helpful in some areas. I did stumble upon your video and have started watching and going along with it. Hope you get paid for this since it really is Magix responsibility to do this kind of training.

I did not realize my version was very old. I just purchased it about a year ago. From the issues others have had with the newer versions I am not sure I want to upgrade. I have enough problems with this older version. In mymind it would be better to learn to use this older version and if things finally go well then upgrading to a newer version would be easier. What do you think?

Hi Ken,

I suggest that you consider the newest version, either Plus or Premium and learn from that one. Some of the features and buttons have changed for the better and the newer version would require some adjustment.

If you have shaky videos that need stabilizing, then Premium is the best, and you get some other plugins that are quite good, all well worth the difference in price.

If you registered your version of MEP with Magix, then you may qualify for a special upgrade price. You can always ask them through Magix support. They are very helpful, although sometimes it takces a few days to get a reply as they don't work on the weekends.

There is a lot of information available on YouTube about how to use MEP, and lot of information in the Forum. And, we are there to help. Keep going as you have been going, read the manual, read through some of the Q&A's and you will find a lot of information.

I suggest that you start with a small test project and play with everything whilst following the manual. Hands-on is really the only way to properly learn and understand any of these programs.

As you go along, you will discover the power of the product, not just the video part, but also the audio and effects. It all seems very daunting at first.

No, Magix doesn't pay me. This is a hobby that I enjoy.

Hi,

In addition to John's excellent introductory tutorial, the MEP 17 PDF manual,  and his other suggestions, check out the recommendation I made here:

http://www.magix.info/us/ot-book-about-mep.knowledge.1091432.html

I'd also suggest methodical use of the Search tool here when you have specific issues. Better, use Google Advanced with site:MAGIX.info, with thoughtfully constructed search targets.

And to increase your chance of a helpful response, provide as much information as possible, with screenshots where appropriate. See this sticky:
