Move the MMM program and all soundpools/instruments from one PC to ano

JoopK wrote on 2/6/2019, 4:40 AM

I am a new user of MMM. I installed MMM Premium on a windows 7 PC to test and get familiar with. I now want to move this licence to my MAC PC in my studio. Planning to install there Parallels with Windows 7 professional.

Does anybody have experience with this? Does it work? Does MMM see my USB keyboard and my audio interface on thunderbolt/firewire. Does MMM see the VST3 devices that I normally use under OSX? All new to me

How do I do the MMM transfer? Reinstall the basic program and then re-upload the soundpools and instruments? How does that work with licencing?

Thanks in advance for you advise.

Joop

Hi

. . . . MMM . . . .MAC PC in my studio. Planning to install there Parallels with Windows 7 professional . . . .

IMHO Music Maker and Parallels do not get on well with each other. Music Maker requires direct access to the audio card and DVD or BD writer, Parallels provides virtual devices for these.

The best method is to use Boot Camp and install Windows on to the MAC, MMM will then be in its natural Windows environment and have direct access to hardware.

MMM you have it can be installed, registered and used on 2 computers

Hi John,

Thank you.

I have an external Audio Interface (Presonus Fire Studio) on thunderbolt/firewire. My DVD unit is also external on USB. Does Windows under parallels sees USB and Thunderbolt portd as far as you know? (also need that for my USB keyboard)

I would use bootcamp as it is free, but according to litarature Bootcamp on MAC is no longer supported on High-Sierra, which I have. So I can't use that. Will have to find out what to do then.

I have also put this question to Magix support but no answer yet and I need to movr on.

Hi

I would suggest you look on the Parallels forums about direct access to USB and Firewire as this is a Parallels issue not a MMM issue.

See this article re Bootcamp and High Sierra, there are several other solutions to getting this to work on the Internet.

Hi John,

Again thank you. I found out that Bootcamp DOES run om my MAC so I am installing windows 7 using Bootcamp assitant right nore question that remails. I have MMM on a windows PC. You mention that it can be used on 2 machine. You seem to know a lot about this subject so... how do I do that practically. Download the application again on my other machine and use the same registration key? Or???? Then I have the extra soundpools and extra instruments that I recived as a bonus. I could download these from the store and it automatically applied a discount until I reached my limit. But can I also copy those files from one pc to the other? Where can I find them om my PC?

If I would have the answers that would be great

To download and install:

  1. Using a web browser, browse to www.magix.com

  2. Click the My Account icon top right of the home page

  3. Login with your email address and password

  4. Select the My Products link

Hi John,

Great help. Last question: How do I deal with the installed soundloops and instruments, etc. Are they copied at the same time or should I move the files manually from one PC to the other one?

Joop

PS I am almost done with installing windows on my mac with Bootcamp. Very lengthy joc.

Hi Joop.

I am not John, obviously, but once you have MMM installed on your new Mac partition, if you register it ensuring you use the same email address and serial number as for the previous (Windows) installation, once registration is complete you should see that all your previously-purchased soundpools etc. are shown (under the Store tab, I think) as available to download and install to your Mac.

Hi Joop

Once you have installed MMM the extras, soundpools, loops etc, should all be in the Store with a small download icon, you may also find a Download extra content option under Help which should download and install them all.

. . . .I am almost done with installing windows on my mac with Bootcamp. Very lengthy joc . . . .

It is, it seems to take a lot longer than just installing Windows on a PC for no apparent reason.
