Move Studio PLatinum 18????

Movie Studio P 18- what is this? I had some instability in the last 3 versions 15,16,17 -so I upgraded- MS P 18 is not the same product?
Its a massively stripped down version it seems. Id like to refun it and find some other product if possible. Why call it the same and pop up an upgrade notice if its not even close to the same product? its only 5o bucks but still- I will not use this

@jason-whelan

Can I recommend you to read the whole of this thread https://www.magix.info/us/forum/release-movie-studio-18--1278664/ which explains that Movie Studio 18 is no longer a Magix Vegas product? It also includes links to a number of tutorials for Movie Edit Pro, on which MS18 is based.

Details of how to apply for a refund can be found at https://www.magix.com/gb/terms-and-conditions/

Hi,

Do you have the Platinum version or the Suite version?

Its a massively stripped down version it seems.

I am curious. Why do you say that? Can you give us some details about what is missing (not just different? What could you do in Vegas MS17 that you can't figure out how to do in Magix MS (which is the same as Movie Edit Pro Plus/Premium

Platinum. In vegasMS17 I could open the audio tracks in sound forge or wavelab. I could easily speed up clips and tracks. I dont even see the preference settings for the graphic options for the preview screen. if this is all in there I have no idea where. Again- its not even close to familiar.

The basics are the same, but it takes some work to understand where everything is. I find it more intuitive than Vegas, but that's just me.

For audio, see my tutorials on Everything Audio in MEP/VPX, in particular how to use the External Audio editor. Depending on which version of Sound Forge you have, there could be a problem that Magix has not yet sorted out, unfortunately. Instead of opening the wave file, it tries to open the temp file .HDP in the external editor. This is the problem/bug that needs to be addressed.

I have tested Sound Forge Audio Cleaning Lab, Samplitude Pro X, and Sound Forge Audio Studio and they work as the external audio editor which is set to Music Editor 3 by default or changed by you in the Program Settings Folders tab to another program. Sound Forge Pro11 did not work as it could not open the .HDP file. Perhaps SFP15 can. I really wish that Magix would fix this.

There is also a trick to use the external audio editor. If using the audio that is with a video, it first has to be mixed down to a wave file (Shift+D). You can decide what you want to mix down - just one object, a range, one or more tracks, etc. The details are in my tutorials. See the listing of topics in the YT description. I think that you'll be surprised at what the program has to offer.

Speeding up clips and tracks:

Do you mean changing the speed of a clip or the speed of scrubbing?

For a clip, apply the Speed Effect under Effects, Video Effects, or for quickly doing it, right click on the button indicated in the image or click on the button if it is already in Stretch mode, shortcut 0 on the top of the keyboard. Now you can drag either end of the clip in to speed up, out to slow down. There is a limit if the video has audio. You may have to ungroup the audio and use the Effect, Audio Effects, General, Timestretch/Resample to open the Tempo-Pitch/Resample effect or simply delete the ungrouped audio.

As for speeding up a track, a track cannot be sped up, only objects can be sped up. So, what exactly do you mean?

BTW, there are no track video effects, but you can copy/paste effects. There are audio track effects available through the Mixer.

Preview Monitor Graphics:

I'm not sure what you are looking for. Can you elaborate?

There is a hamburger menu at the top left of the Preview Window that has some functions that you may be looking for.

John E. Baker has provided a list of tutorials that may interest you. Many of the are mine. The important ones are Getting Started, parts 2 and 3, and Basic Editing Parts 1 and 2.

Further to my previous post, when you switch to the stretch mode, be sure to click on the arrow button - single object mouse mode - to get back to normal mouse mode operation.

Note the other mouse modes for single-track and multi-track and the others under the right-click popdown.
