move addins from previos versions to X6

preacherallen wrote on 3/8/2014, 11:04 AM

I have upgraded to X6 at the same time I lost my C drive.  So I am doing a clean install of all programs.  I have had many version in the past of X some came with add ons that I like - X4 had New BlueFX light blends, X3 had New BlueFX Premium effects and ProDad Vita scene LE, and X5 had New Blue Colorfast and New Blue Titler EX with them.  I have the original disk for each of the Video Pro programs and the key codes to unlock the add ins.  The question is how can I get them into X6?  I really don't want to install them all one at a time and even then it seems that program add ons in previous versions are not available in the most recent install (for instance even though X4 was on the last C drive its add in was not available on X5 when I installed it.

So bottom line again - is there a way to get addins that I got for free with previous versions of Video Pro X to work in this new install of X6.

Hi Allen.

I don't have VPX6 (still running 32 bit OS) but I have had all the previous versions of VPX and 5 definitely allows me to use all the extras from earlier versions.  IOW, the install of a "new" version seems to find all the extras bundled with earlier versions.

However, if you, quite reasonably, want to be able to use these items in VPX6, on, effectively, a "new" computer, I think you will have to reinstall the versions of VPX to which they were "attached".  However, and this is especially the case with NewBlueFX and ProDAD, in my experience, you may not be able to "re-authorise" them!  Several seem to have a limited time within which full registration/authorisation can take place; given that you have clearly registered them previously you may not be able to re-register them.

Is there any way you can access any of the data on the old C:\ drive?  If so, you might be able to simply copy the appropriate files from the old drive to the new (make sure you place them in exactly the same folder structure) and have VPX6 find them, though I rather suspect they need to be "installed" (i.e. data written to the Registry) in order for them to be usable.

Perhaps your situation is a very good example of why the keeping of disc images which can be cloned to new drives is strongly encouraged!

Thank you for your thoughts.  I have not liked clones because I often instll lots of things that I later wish were gone.  a good example is I had 8 versions of Magix video editing software on my computer when it crashed but using only one.  You say unistall them - I would have had I known I was about to crash and need an image but we all know we never know that

As Jeff has said there should be no reason for you not to be able to access plugins from previous version with VPX5 but VPX6 is a different "Kettle of Fish" in that it is a 64Bit program and all your previous plugins will be 32Bit and will not be accessible from VPX6.

You could try approaching the plug in manufacturer and see if you could get a 64Bit version if one exists but I imagine they would probably want money for the priviledge. They may however offer you a special price seeing as you have a registered 32Bit version.

Good point Peter!  Since I'm still 32 bit, the thought that 32 bit plug-ins would not run in a 64 bit app never occurred to me!

However, I understand that all 64 bit Windows, with the exception of the most basic versions, do include a 32 bit emulator.  Does that allow 32 bit plugs to work in a 64 bit environment?  In the case of 32 bit VSTs I know it doesn't; the user has to invest in something like jBridge to make them "available".  Is it the same for these video plugs?

Hi Jeff

As you suggest - a 32bit program will work in a 64bit OS so if there was a standalone version of the plugin you could use that just like you can use MEP which is still 32bit, but a 32bit plugin will not work in a 64bit program.

There has been quite a bit of discussion about this in the German forum and jbridge was mentioned but I have seen no evidence that it works with VPX6 and the 32bit plugins.

Hi Jeff and others,

There is an update available:

Important changes in version 13.0.4.2 compared to version 13.0.3.24

Minor corrections to:
Text in the program
Selection handles in "Internet media" dialog
Preview rendering
Effect masks
Export presets
Surround sound
PSD export of DVD menus
MagicBulletQuickLooks
Import compatibility of audio files improved
Compatibility of the timecode option "Recording time" improved
Thumnail display error fixed
Display error of measuring instruments on some systems fixed
Enhanced performance of files with AAC sound
Support for 64-bit plugins with transitions

I had written up something for here but decided to check before posting. I will install and see if this solves some of my problems. I doubt that this will help me get to use my ProDAD Adorage 3. I tried adding the path to the plugins without success. We shall see what this update does.
