MOV files

JeffB2310 wrote on 1/22/2023, 9:29 AM

I have just purchased and installed Magix Movie Studio for the first time. However the software does not seem to recognise the .MOV files in my library. No thumbnail picture displayed and when clip is dragged to timeline the picture is blacked out though there is staggered sound. Any clues?

Sorry but I have just found the same thing for the .MTS files too. I have in the past used Sony Movie Studio Platinum, when media import seemed more straight forward

Hi

Without knowing your computer specification - in the Program settings, Device options tab, Import, Processing and Export options try changing the settings to CPU.

For further, more specific advice, we need the specification of your computer system including Windows version and program version, see this topic for what is required and please quote processor and graphics card make/model(s) in full, and also what monitor/screen resolution(s)you are working with if this is a laptop.

I would suggest you put this information in your profile signature so we do not have to keep asking for it.

Are the MOV files asking for Quicktime to be installed?

1. Thank you for responding so quickly. I have added my pc and Windows specification to the Signature as requested. A helpful tip in itself.

2. I have changed the three settings you referred to to CPU and it has been able to open the thumb nails and I have been able to drag in the clips to the timeline. So this is a step forwards.

3. Yes there was a reference to Quicktime, but I wasn't sure whether to download or not.

4. Finally it is asking is whether I want to adjust the clip as the active movie has a res of 1920 x 1080, 25 fps and the particular clip 1280 x 720, 29.97 fps. Is there a rule of thumb in relation to this?

Thank you - sincerely

Hi

Thanks for the specs.

The issue with the no image was due to neither of the GPUs, the Intel integrated HD 4000 and the Nvidia GTX 680 not being able to be used for the importing of the video.

  • If the MOV files now import without installing QuickTime then there is no need to install it.

  • Item 4 - there are several views on this - depending on whether you are mixing video of different resolution and/or framerates

♦ If all the videos imported are the same resolution and framerate then the project movie setting should
be set to the incoming video size and framerate, selecting Adjust if the project movie settings are not the same as the video resolution

♦ If the videos are of different resolutions then I would suggest setting the project to the export resolution and framerate which you require and select Do not adjust

♦ When mixing video framerates, or wanting to change framerate on export, then I would set:

. the project movie setting to same as the export framerate

. turn on the Speed, Effect, Interpolate intermediate images option for all the video clips - select
all the clips on the timeline then the add the speed effect setting only mentioned option.

HTH
