MMS 2023 Camera/ZoomShot Export Bug

Hello all, I think I have come across a bug regarding export using Camera Zoomshot. The crop is not respected and the full video is exported in the movie frame. That is, with a 4:3 movie setting and a 16:9 video which is cropped down to the 4:3 shape, the whole video (full width, no crop) is exported with black bars top and bottom (letterboxed).

Details:

Movie settings (E): 1440 1080 Ratio 4:3.

Video: UHD: 3840x2160, 16:9.

Result in VLC PLayer:

When I do this with Section, it works; the video is cropped with no bars. Similarly, both effects work in MEP 2021.

I have tried a 1920x1080 16:9 source file as well, same bug occurs.

@AAProds Hi, same project settings with a UHD: 3840x2160 AVC clip, sorry everything looks correct, different media player but it looks correct in VLC also.

I was able to drag the keyframe right off the keyframe timeline to the right so it's beyond view & reach, this time the export had black bars,

PS, go to SPR then back to Camera Zoom shot so the keyframe controls activate, put the cursor at the start & create a keyframe, use the arrow buttons to go to the right keyframe that's beyond reach & delete it,

@me_again hmm 🤔 did you make sure there was no other keyframe at the end that you couldn't see. ?

I exported one with a new keyframe at the start but left the unseen one at the end just to see what would happen, that export had black bars

@me_again Just out of curiousity can you share the MediaInfo of the file, I know you said you'd tried 1920x1080 as well as 3840x2160 but I've just got to ask.

I exported one with the preview controls still greyed out like your pic, export didn't section it like your pics,

camera/zoom left on Edit as in your pics.

So i went to SPR then back to camera/zoom so the keyframe controls were white & useable, again export didn't section it like your pics

I left the keyframe as it was but I changed camera/zoom to Preview, this time it sectioned it correctly

Hi Al,

I don't get the same thing. Like Gid indicated, switch to Preview when in CZS or better still, switch to SPR to make sure that the CZS is actually applied.

Definitely reproducible here with various files.

Nothing I set, either with CZS keyframes (with the inactive KF control panel) or activating the KFCP with SPR then keyframing will make MMS honour the keyframing on export. The keyframes are ignored.

The Preview works OK ie it indicates the cropping/panning I have set.

OK, that's it. The export must be done in Preview, which is obviously ridiculous, as you would have to go through every CZS object and set them to Preview.

Does everybody concur with the need to be in Preview?

No. Only the last one needs you to have gone elsewhere. I tested this with several CZS shots. I just moved the playback marker to the beginning and adjusted the rectangle, never going to preview or SPR, added another clip, CZS, added another clip CZS, and another with CZS, and a last one but with no CZS. All were cropped appropriately except for the last one, obviously, where I didn't use CZS.

It's highly unlikely that you would finish off a project still being on the CZS screen, that is, without clicking somewhere else.

from my testing I can go one step further than "the need to be in preview".

It seems that you have to NOT be in CZs i.e any effect button EXCEPT Camer.Zoom shot.

@me_again When i exported i never left the CZ except the times when i went to SPR to activate the keyframes, but all exports were done with CZ as the effect in the window, as i said earlier it was the Preview that fixed it,

Thanks John, I just did a multi-JPEG slideshow with CZS on all images, including the last one, and exported in Edit. All CZS effects were applied except for the last.

I'll report that as the bug.

Yes, please do so. Since the effect is applied - a kf exists - export should acknowledge this.

Andy, yes the plot thickens. I have 3 JPEGs, all with CZS effects applied the second also with Brightness (which doesn't display, BTW😮) and CZS effect panel showing. I highlighted the second image. In Edit mode, on export, the CZS on the first didn't work, on the second and last, it did. Now I'm confused.

The only surefire way of getting it to work is to deselect all objects. Then it doesn't matter if you're in Edit, or CZS is showing.

@AAProds Your project is 1440x1080 but you're sectioning 3840x2160 footage, can I ask how your PC performs? You have a 4core CPU but it's single threaded, only 2.66 GHz & it's from 2009, only 12GB RAM & a GPU 'which is ignored by MEP',

The struggle is real, Gid! I don't do a lot of long-project UHD stuff, mainly snippets from my phone for Whatsapp/FB (hence the 4:3). I'll often use proxies for UHD. The really slow aspect is the Neat Video encodes of VHS captures, which I leave for overnight.

That's all about to change though as I finally upgrade after 12 years.

I did the same applying various CZS effects and exported - all CSZ effects were exported including the last one.

I did not have to do any else, ie the Preview option was not touched, the only thing which has not been mentioned being done, is that after applying the effect to the last object I clicked on an empty part of the timeline so that no objects were selected before exporting.
