The simple answer would be - in the thousands.  MM-17 is not yet available in the USA, so I cannot give an exact number.

However, the answer will differ greatly depending on whether you have the Basic version or the Premium version.

The Basic versions usually have only five or six soundpool styles with a limited selection of samples/loops. So much so that I wouldn't recommend getting the Basic version.  The number increases greatly with the Premium versions.

As an example, MM-15 Premium has 3543 files in eleven different styles in the soundpool.  That sounds like a lot, and it is....BUT...

For the melodic instrument groups (guitar, keyboards, synths, sequences, strings, pads, etc.) each sample has seven versions of the same loop.  This give you the same loop in a range of keys. So, there may be 3543 total samples, but the usable variety is not quite that large.

The good news is that you can add to your available samples/loops.  You can add any of the Soundpool collections from previous versions of MMM.  You can also use samples/loops from outside sources, but there is no guarantee that they will have a set beat assigned to them like the soundpool samples do.

It occurred to me that my previous answer only covered the soundpool.  There are also other samples, largely in the percussion synths like Drum'n'Bass, Robata, and LIVID.  It is not a huge amount, but certainly significant.
