MM+2021 not sending clock to MIDI controller

MM+2021

Akai Pro. MPK Mini

Windows 10 64-bit

Hey all, im pretty much a complete novice at all of this, but in short I want the arpeggiator on my MIDI controller to run in time with MM's in-program tempo. I have tried setting the clock on the MPK to external and as expected the arpeggiator function doesnt output anything when its active and nothing is playing. I've read around and seen that it should work once i've started a track. I cant seem to find anything about this specific problem nor can i figure out what settings, if any I need to change. Does MM even send that information at all?

Thank you

@The-angry-swift How is your Controller connected to your computer? Is it selected as a MIDI out device in the program settings? I'm not sure if it will work over an USB cable. Maybe it only works over a MIDI interface.

Hi SP, yes it is set as the midi pit but unfortunately that setting doesn't seem to change anything. It is connected over a USB multiport bus, i have tried with it directly plugged into the computer as well, but with no luck. What is the difference between USB and a midi interface? How do I go about getting that setup?

@The-angry-swift Can you upload a screenshot of the synchronisation settings (located in the project options) with the blue arrow icon above the textbox?

The USB driver of your controller allows to send MIDI from the controller to the computer. The question is, if it is able to send MIDI back from the computer to the controller. You need to be able to select your controller as an MIDI Output in Music Maker or else Music Maker cannot send the MIDI clock signals to it. If your controller isn't available as a MIDI output you can try to use your controller as the main MIDI clock source (if it can create such a signal). Music Maker should then follow the MIDI clock of your controller. This could work.

I looked up some pictures of the MPK Mini and it doesn't look like it has an MIDI input, only USB. So my idea about using a MIDI interface and a MIDI cable will not work.

SP thank you so much for the detailed response help, I truly appreciate it. Apologies for the delay in response!

Well nuts, I was just looking through manual again and may have found my problem. It mentions specifically that for midi sync to work, a regular midi connection is required which I cannot do since my controller has no midi out. *facepalm* I feel like I have wasted your time, I should have read the manual more carefully. ITs really too bad MM hasn't come up with a workaround for this, as it seems like a good number of other DAWs seem to support midi sync through simple USB. Oh well!

@The-angry-swift Hmm, and if you enable "Receive MIDI synchronization" in the settings above and use the MPK as the clock source it doesn't work?

@The-angry-swift

Hi

Does the Akai Professional MPK editor software on your PC create a 'pseudo' MIDI device that MMM can see and send the MIDI clock signals to?

Johnebaker that's a great question. As a major novice with midi controllers, i have only just figured out how to change the clock settings. How do I verify of it creates this "pseudo" midi device?

SP i have yet to make that work, i will try again tomorrow and see if I've missed anything
