MM 2018: how can I activate instruments I had in MM Live 2016?

brian-ritchie wrote on 12/13/2017, 6:21 PM

I've just installed and registered Music Maker Premium 2018. The previous version on my laptop was MM Live 2016. SOME of the instruments I had in that version are now activated in the new version, but some are not (listed below). They appear under the Instruments tab, but are padlocked. When I click on the padlock, I get the main Activation dialog again; but nothing I do in there works: I've tried entering my serial number for MM2018, and for MM2016, but I just get an error telling me they (the versions of MM) are already activated and I should be able to download instruments etc. from the store.

In the Store view, the padlocked instruments also have a Purchase option. Am I supposed to buy them again? If I do, will they count against the "8 free instruments" I'm promised with MM 2018?

The instruments affected are: Bass Machine, Rock Drums, String Ensemble and World Percussion.

Thanks for any advice/help you can give.

Brian

@brian-ritchie

If you look further down the forum page you will find this topic has been extensively covered already.

OK! I had looked, but didn't spot any subject lines that looked relevant (not sure how I missed the first one I found this time!) I tried searching, but only found posts about missing Soundpools, or folk for whom the problem had just gone away when they did things I've done already.

Sounds like I should report this to Magix, based on what I've read so far.

One post implies that my locked instruments were not part of MM Live 2016. I don't remember buying extra instruments, but they may have been bonuses. Also, I have a very old copy of Samplitude (2013) that appears to be registered to a different account; I'm sure that's going to complicate things...

Here is the list of installation files for MM2016 Live. Look at the instruments:

The instruments that you listed, Bass Machine, Rock Drums, String Ensemble and World Percussion, did not come with my version of 2016 Live. I received these with Samplitude Music Studio 2013, Samplitude Pro X2 or X3. String Ensemble also came with MM Sound Track Movie Score Edition.

Did you try activating your 2013 version? If not, try it. I presume that you mean Samplitude Music Studio 2013, because there is no Samplitude 2013 (this is the Pro version).

Sorted: I had registered my copy of Samplitude Music Studio 2013 under a different email address. I contacted Magix Support, and they transferred it to the same email/account as my Music Maker. After that, it was straightforward: I just activated my copy of SMS, and the "missing" instruments became available. On activation, I was told I might need to download more content, but they seemed to work there and then. (Then I spotted that there was an update for Music Maker, and applying that slightly complicated things again... but soon had it all going again.)

Thanks for all your help and suggestions!
