Midi Controller(s) not responding

Thomas-McManus wrote on 11/17/2020, 9:57 PM

Hi,

Running Windows 10, Magix Premium Music Maker Premium Edition (2021). Version 29.04.25. For the life of me I cannot get Music Maker to respond to my midi controllers. I've tried both my NI Komplete A61 and Nektar Panorama T4. It recognizes the drivers under the Audio/Midi tab but no sound no response. What gives? I've uninstalled/reinstalled. Closed re-opend the app... Searched the Internet ,you tube. I cannot find the answer.

I use the same keyboards for Acid Pro 10, Reason 11, Ableton Live, Studio One 5 and have no issues at all!!!. I'm losing my mind here.

Grateful for any suggestions.

Thanks,
Tommy

@Thomas-McManus

Welcome to the Magix user to user forums.

Inevitable first question (with apologies if this is too obvious): did you set the track Record button to "MIDI Rec"?

What audio drivers are you using?

Thomas-McManus wrote on 11/18/2020, 7:27 AM

Thank you but yes, I did arm the midi track record button. I should mention that I do receive audio when using the mouse and PC keyboard. After selecting the midi driver I completely excited out of the software and reopened it. The software does not respond to my midi controller(s), very frustrating.

On this particular PC running Windows 10 all my other DAW's recognize the controller and they all work fine. I use Magix ACID Pro 10 and it works fine but not with Magix Music Maker Premium 2021?

The audio drivers that I am using is Presonus STUDIO 24C USB-C 2x2 audio/MIDI interface.

Am I experiencing a port conflict? Although, I only have one midi controller plugged in to this PC. Are there some system settings that I need to address? Is it possible my keyboard controllers below will not work with Magix Premium 2021?

So far I have tried the

Nektar Pamorama T4

NI Komplete Kontrol S61

Presonus Atom Sq

Thanks again in advance for any suggestions.

Tommy

That's the audio interface but what audio drivers do you select in Magix? For instance I use an Edirol interface and use the FL Studio ASIO driver (because I have FL Studio). I don't choose the Edirol driver and don't need to do that and it's not a good idea. The Edirol interface is set as input and output in the advanced settings.

Thank you Graham, I am also using the Presonus ASIO driver. I will double check my settings later and upload a screen shot.

What driver do you suggest I use then as it only allows the Presonus "Studio USB ASIO Driver" or the "Magix Low Latency 2016". I have tried both but no luck with the midi Controller.

Thanks,

Tommy

That looks OK. Is there anything under advanced settings?

Thomas-McManus wrote on 11/19/2020, 7:14 AM

I've exhausted all possibilities here I believe. Yes, Advanced brings up more options but I have tried every possible combination. I am disappointed that Magix does not offer official support. I have spent way too much time on this. My main DAW is Presonus Studio One 5 and also use Reason 11. Never had any issues with midi configuration, I even do more advanced stuff such as Midi Time Code and they all work amazingly well. The thing that bugs me the most is I also use Acid Pro 10 by Magix and again I use the same midi controllers and midi configuration was a breeze and no issues with the controller(s).

Thanks again for your suggestions,

Tommy

@Thomas-McManus

Hi,

Does the on-screen keyboard work? That is, when you play a note, does it respond and can you hear it?

Did you try any other instruments than the default piano?

Hi,

Yes, the mouse and the pc keyboard does respond and yes tried several Magix virtual instruments as well as my own virtual instruments. They all respond to mouse clicks and pc keyboard but does not work with any of my midi controllers and I've tied 3.

Thanks,
Tommy

The two things I would try is to unplug the Presonus and see if it works with the inbuilt audio. I would also try pluging the Nektar into the midi input of the Presonus (I believe it has a standard midi port), make the required settings and see if that works.

Thomas-McManus wrote on 11/19/2020, 11:16 AM

Thank you, that is a great idea since both Nektar and Personas have the older Pin DIN midi IN & OUT. I will try that later and post my findings.

Thank you Graham, that workaround did the trick!!! :-). Midi OUT of the Nektar to Midi IN on the Personas sound interface. Much appreciated.
