MEP2013 - Object Properties bug?

terrypin wrote on 4/5/2013, 12:44 PM

Can others reproduce this please?

1. Open the Properies for an object.

2. Change its name and click OK.

Its name does not change.

No previous version suffered from this problem. (I've just tested MEP17 and MX.)

I'm only surprised it took me so long to notice it. Unless it's some sudden quirk in my system.

Hi Terry

The name does not change for me in MX or 17 either!

I do not understand why, in Properties, it should rename when there is a specific option to Rename directly above the Properties option in 17/MX/2013?

Morning John,

Thanks for checking. But now you've got me even more puzzled, as I don't have a Rename option! I'm using 12.0.2.2 (UDC2), which Help > Online update says is the latest version. Can you explain further please?

In MEP 17 and MX I just type the new name in the Object name box.

But in 2013 that doesn't work:

Hi Terry

Confusion - I think there was an important bit of information missing in the question - I thought you were referring to an object in the Media pane not on the timeline  !

However is does work as I thnk it should ie it changes the object name to a 'local' name only on the timeline - not the actual file name as shown here.

Cheers

John

Hi John,

I'm not following you on this!

Using Object  Properties (for an object on the timeline, nothing todo with media pane) do you get same buggy behaviour I've described? Only in MEP 2013.

Terry,

I've just checked with a .jpg file in 17, MX and 2013 and all behave the same. The 'Object' name can be changed in the properties window and the change is immediately reflected in the object on the timeline. The filename does not change. I've not noticed this feature before -- you can use the same file in several places on the timeline and give each occurrence a unique object name as shown here:

I think in the media pane the 'Rename' function is no different than the usual Windows Explorer one.

Regards,

Carl

Carl, John: Thanks both. Solved! It's because I have this setting in MEP 2013, which i think I changed after reading somewhere that it improved playback performance a bit.

I still regard it as a minor bug, because that setting should not affect the renaming feature.

I often find it quite a useful facility to identify clips.

Carl: Are you sure you haven't used it before? Another area in which it's not just useful but apparently essential is when creating new collages, which i know you've done. Spacer.tif needs renamng to COLLAGE, and each object to PH1, PH2,etc. Or did you do that by copying files and renaming them?

Confirmed by Magix as a bug.
