Of course 😉 - I normally run my screens, they are identical, a different way

MEP main window on the UHD connected screen and Preview monitor on the NVidia connected screen.

For the testing I put every thing on the UHD to see how much, if any, MEP activity was registered on the NVidia.

As I normally work there is some residual activity of the NVidia, ~ 2%, however this is not from MEP.

Ray - Re your comment about the overload setting:-

I think it may be the other way around.The box with the tick in it is not greyed out but may be locked in. Why else would I keep getting readings that it is in use?

If the program had disabled this then the GPU would still be in use for whatever, just as it is without the box checked, but it would be preventing any further work being farmed out from the CPU to further overload the weakish GPU.

After your comments about changing the various Program Settings I did some testing myself and while I did not feel there was much benefit in playback or Timeline handling smoothness from the different settings you tried I did discover something profound. With a 4K 25fps all movie clip project - checking the box in Program Settings>Video Audio>Other> Reduce resolution for improved performance - had the same effect as clicking the Blue Flash button below the preview monitor in that it halved the load on the CPU and GPU's but without reducing the sharpness of the picture in the monitor. Plus preview started without significant delay due to preloading indicated by the blue line below the timeline. I had always thought, mainly due to the description of this selection in the help files, that this only had an effect when there are very high resolution "Image" files i.e. Jpegs in the project, but it appears to work with UHD video and retains the sharpness in the monitor - cool!

I will attempt to comment on some of the other points tomorrow.

Hi Peter.

In a short while I will be uploading some screen shots and explaining why I've just finished doing about 36 hours of testing various combinations of how to set MEP up with some interesting results.

As an aside, I've always had the section you mention ticked (as you will see later) so hadn't noticed.

There may be other settings I've yet to explore that may be variable from one person's set up to anothers' that we fail to mention that could impact on exports. You just mentioning what you have made me look at this as well.

The screenshot shows how I've always had that section configured but after reading the help section I'm wondering if that is right for me.

Just to add to the variations within MEP and confuse me more. 😉

Out of curiosity I've just changed the setting in that box to 'HD' and got the question 'Do you want to alter the proxy files? to which I answered yes. Had to activate a new free codec online and then proceeded to change the proxy files.

Don't try it! At least not with my level of NVIDIA card (at present switched in) which seems to be doing all of the encoding and is taking longer than normal exporting times. I will then see if the export of the project is faster than before.

[ Edit] no improvement on export times but took ages to change the proxy files. Not in my opinion worth doing.
