MEP MX Premium > Record Video from DV camcorder: device does not connect to MEP

Hi, I have a problem transferring (recording) movies on DV from a Canon Vixia HV40 (Full HD) to MEP MX Premium (latest download version - free trial). I am on PC with WIN 7 and a built in FireWire connection. When selecting:

Tasks > Recored video from DV camcorder, I get the following message: Could not connect to selected device.

The DV Recording pup-up window recognizes the camera though, it indicates under 1: Select DV device driver: Canon VIXIA HV40, but at the same time the error pop-up come sup as well: "Could not connect to selected device."

I followed the indications provided in the help file:

* I installed latest verison of Microsoft DirectX 9

* I unplugged all cables, switched off camcorder, then reconnected fire wire cable from camcorder to firewire of PC and only then switched camcorder on again. To no avail.

Any ideas?

Thanks, Stephan

John

Thank you very much John for this excellent resource. Changing the driver at first did not solve the problem, then I found a post in a forum about my specific camera type - Canon Vixia HV30 or HV40 - and the person had contacted Canon about this same problem. Here is what it said:

====

Camera Settings - Make sure in the menu settings of the canon in playback mode you have Autodetect set instead of HDV. You're footage will still be in HD, but Autodetect lets your movie editing program (and Windows) more easily choose the setting automatically. Also, change the next playback setting 2 to DV Device Locked.

====

When I switched the settings to DV Device Locked, MAgix was connecting to the camera and capturing went smoothly.

Thank you again for the help John - if it was not for changing the driver option then it was at least for the direction your PDF helper file had provided - I used keywords contained in your post to locate a device-specific answer in a different forum.

Great many thanks!

Stephan
