MEP MX - Fuzzy playback of straight lines

claytondj wrote on 6/12/2012, 2:38 PM

I have built a MEP movie importing .mov video clips recorded using apple device. In MEP playback and on burned DVD discs straight lines in the movie (such as walls and clothing) appear fuzzy and moving. Any ideas?

Have tried reducing FPS rate from 29 to 25 - and played DVD back on standard and blu-ray player but no different.

Hi

I suspect you are hitting the progressive / interlaced video problem which is best explained here http://neuron2.net/LVG/interlacing.html.

You can try burning the video with progressive turned on instead of interlaced see image sequence below for how to get to the setting from the Burn dialog

Hi David

1. The change in frame rate will introduce 'pull down' issues - in certain clips where there is movement or panning there will appear some jerkiness - this is because in frames are being dropped to bring down the frame rate to 25 fps -  there is very little you can do about this - see 4 below.

2.  The iPad video is progressive and when burned as a progressive video, when it is played on TV, the player may change this to interleaved video.  Again unless the player can output a progressive video and the TV is capable of displaying progressive video  then again there is very little you can do about it.

3.  Standard DVD is 720*576 25fps for the UK.  You can however change the aspect ratio as shown in these images - click the buttons/options indicated : -

4.  You can try converting the video to 25fps to see if this helps, although from experience the pull down issue still remains,  - many users on here recommend using Super - available here

John,

Thanks very much. Sorted the problem - selecting 'standard DVD' in the burn dialogue was resetting progressive to interlaced. Using the 'user defined' box and keeping progressive scan enabled produced a much better result. Many thanks again.

David
