MEP(MS)2022 and another annoying bug I've just found

me_again wrote on 6/21/2022, 3:48 AM

Greetings and apologies if I've missed this "bug" when I searched before posting.

While editing a short slideshow this morning I accidentally clicked on the little triangle next to "size/position/rotation" in the active effects slider thingy. It opened to show all the sub effects. I thought nothing of it and closed it, again by clicking the little triangle next to it.

I moved onto the next photo and clicked on "size position/rotation" in the effects selector window and it opened fully showing all 7 sub effects. I closed it as before and moved on.

All subsequent photo edits utilising "size...etc" open fully for want of a better word. Saving, closing MEP and restarting it clears the bug.

Now it's annoying for what I think are obvious reasons, especially as I only have one monitior and the screen is somewhat crowded anyway without 6 extra lines (7 including the original "size"tab) appearing in the "slider" window - what is that called?

This anomaly appear to happen on any built in effect that has the little arrow next to it when selected to use.

I'm just wondering if it's my system as I've not noticed it before. The system is new and was updated to Windows 11 last week but I can't see how that can cause this annoyance.

@me_again Yep same here, even after closing that project & creating a New Project, add Media & add Size/Position the dropdown is expanded as in your vid

me_again wrote on 6/21/2022, 6:46 AM

Oh good! Or not depending on your outlook on life.

Thanks for confirming that @Former user. I will raise a support ticket it but expectation for anything to be done is practically zero, especially with v2023 just around the corner (probably), but I live in hope.

In reality it's more than likely too late now to fix it for v2023's release even if it's deemed important enough.

Hi Andy, Gid

This is neither a bug, or is taking up any more space other than that which has been allocated for the Keyframes panel which is the area as shown indicated by the yellow outline below.

You can adjust the area of the panel by either dragging down the bar indicated by the green arrow, or close it completely by clicking the icon indicated by the blue arrow.

Thanks John but hmmmm if it's meant to be why, when clicking the little triangle, does it automatically open on every video/ photo that follows?

I know I can adjust the key frames panel (so that's what the effects thingy is called) but to open it up to accommodate and extra 6 lines on every photo in a 100 pic slideshow is not on.

And if it was meant to be, surely it would be repeated when a save project is reopened?

I don't think I can agree with you on this one John. Try not to lose any sleep over it though 😅

@johnebaker

Hi John EB,

It is just annoying. Collapse the details. Select another clip, select the first clip, and you'll see the expanded dtails that you just collapsed. Collapse it. Select another clip, apply effect for SPR and you get the details. Collapse the details. Remove the effect on everything. Apply the effect to another clip that was not used, the details open.

When I collapse the details, I expect it to stay collapsed until I want to see the details. This happens with other effects as well. When I have a few effects on an object, I don't want them expanded automatically because I happened to have done it on another clip. Maybe not a bug, but certainly poor programming by someone who doesn't use the program.

The same thing happens in VPX. Time to get this fixed.

@me_again

Hi Andy,

Please raise a ticket. I will do the same. For me, this will be Bug053.

That reminds me, I haven't heard back from Magix about the last ticket (June 10) that I raised about 3 other bugs.

Hi Andy,

I have raised a ticket mentioning that this affects VPX14 and MEP/MS2022 and made reference to this thread.

IMO, there are still too many bugs out there and Magix needs a lot of reminding.

I also posted a video:

so all can see this on my channel.

Mercalli v6. Might be worth it... if they fix Section!! 😎

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

Aah, isn't "if" a huge word? Section and a seemingly myriad of other small bugs in the actual Magix program that are obviously inconsequential to the developers/programmers.

MEP/MS 2023 will I fear still have all the bugs, that we've all reported in the past couple or so of versions, uncorrected but that will be OK because I'm being offered even more 3rd party effects which, if they are bugged, Magix can swerve responsibility to their creators.

If only Magix would take responsibility for their own program, accept that it's bugged and fix it everyone would be pleasantly surprised.

It's a shame that a new version of MEP/MS is announced and I'm not looking forward to it at all.

I'm afraid that I'll leave v2023 alone until one of the unpaid beta testers on this forum (i.e. the people that I respect and have helped me and others) posts at least one "smiley face" about it.

Hi Andy,

Include VPX in the list. VPX14 contains many bugs that have been raised over many versions.

Here is the latest Bug List. I haven't checked the ones indicated in cyan, and there may be a couple of others that need confirmation, but for the most part, it reflects bugs still in the current version. With a couple of exceptions (Samplitude and Project Temp Folder bugs), I believe that they apply to MEP2022 as well. I did not include many of the bugs that were raised over the last year and that have been, for the most part, resolved.

We need to keep bugging Magix about their bugs. They correct them based on the volume of complaints.

Greetings John,

You've hit the nail squarely on the head there. All the bugs and other "not working properly" things I've been reported have been replicated and acknowledged as a fault/problem.

If Magix is aware of a problem but can't be bothered to fix it because only a few people complain then that sums up them up as ---- apologies, I can't think of a polite phrase for use in a public forum.
