MEP 2015 - How to split audio tracks from an MP4?

JPSmee wrote on 6/18/2015, 11:12 PM

I have an MP4 that I created that has two audio tracks. I'd like to have both audio tracks play at the same time, but when I try to copy the track and place the new copy beneath the original and set the audio track to 2, the original also changes which track it's pulling. Is there a way to split these tracks so that Magix will allow me to mix both tracks at once?

Hi

I am not sure I follow.....if you unlink the Video and audio and then Ctrl + Drag the Audio down to the 3rd track T3 then you have two separate audio files which you can adjust independently. Then to make one the left channel only - double click the track to open audio cleaning > Stereo FX tab > Preset > Left signal only (T2) - and Right signal only (T3)

Otherwise - File>Export Movie >Audio as MP3 or WAV, reimport the new file under the original (Track 3) and apply panning to both audio tracks (T2 and T3)  to make one the left channel and the other the right.

Hi

. . . . MP4 that I created that has two audio tracks . . .

Do you mean the original from which the mp4 was created had 2 audio tracks eg one narration and the other background music and you want to seperate them?

If so then you cannot seperate them once they have been combined together in the mp4.

Something close to that. It's a recording made using some videogame footage that was captured directly via another piece of software. I was participating in a VOIP call during the recording, and would like to adjust the audio levels of the voice chat in relation to the game audio. Magix *does* detect both audio tracks, but I can't seem to pull either of them out as it's own seperate object within the timeline.

I'd like both tracks to be playing through both left and right at the levels they were captured, however I'd like to be able to adjust the volume of the two tracks independently. I'll see if I can modify your suggestion to meet my needs. Many thanks!

Hi

Assuming the game audio is on one of the stereo channesl and the voice on the other then follow Ss's instructions for copying the audio track and using Audio Cleaning, Stereo FX except:

for one audio track select Both channels = left and for the other audio track select Both channels = right

You should now have two stereo tracks one with game audio and the other with voice.

You can then Normalise each track and adjust the volume of each independantly.

Hi John EB

for one audio track select Both channels = left and for the other audio track select Both channels = right

I 'm not sure I see any benefit from that. If we agree that the original clip soundtrack contains 2 mono channels of entirely different audio, on left and right, then why create two additional duplicate channels, when he can do just as much processing on one of each and that becomes one stereo track after mixdown?

Hi Peter

The OP wants to adjust the sound levels of the video game and the VOIP independantly, and wants each coming out of both speakers.

Thinking more on this problem, I seem to remember, a while ago, another member was in a similar situation -  the software used to capture the game play and the VOIP was creating two seperate audio streams which although MEP recognises them either combined them or ignored one completely.

Memory playing up      here is the similar problem with recording gameplay - no idea if the poster found a solution.

There may be a way of stripping out both audio streams independantly of MEP - @ JPSmee - can put a short ~10  second original recording from the software you used to capture gameplay on to somewhere like Dropbox for us to download and test.
