MEP 17 recording from screen audio cuts in and out -- the volume level appears to be fine. After screen capture the video is good, but the audio cuts in and out.

I'm on a Windows 7 HP Pavillion PC

Without more information we would be guessing.

What is the sound card/chipset in the PC?

If Realtek do you have the Stereo Mixer enabled?

When you select record from screen - what audio device are ou selecting?

Try changing the volume level on the Stereo Mixer - I suspect the auto gain control, when recording, is being overloaded and ramping the volume gain up and down at the very bottom of its range eg 0 = no sound the next step up is overload.
