MEP 16 Plus HD: No Audio Importing from PCM avi

I swear I used to do this a year ago....

Try to import videos from my handheld VadoHD, and the audio is not importing. it states "The file has no Sample Data".

I've tried converting the audio track (using ffmpeg without reencoding) to aac, ac3....no luck. Actually the AAC seemed to import..but the resulting video was screwed and not linked to the audio track within mep.

I should mention the files play fine in VLC player.

Here's a sample file from the same camera ..don't worry about the crappy video quality..it was just an old short video I had laying around.

I've uninstalled mep and reinstalled. Any suggestions.

Welcome to the forum and the download really helps us to try and find out what is wrong.

Analysis of the clip gives it as a AVCHD 1220 * 720 H.264 which is fairly standard for the video codec.

The audio is ADPCM with a sample rate of 44.1kHz and this is where I think the problem is - IIRC MEP expects an audio sample rate of 48kHz.

Try running the clip through ffmpeg again but increase the audio bitrate to 48kHz.

I do not have MEP16 anymore however the clip loads into MEP17 directly with no conversion s you can see in this image

Also check the program settings that you have the Extract audio option checked.

Hi,

In MEP 16 Plus HD I had almost the opposite problem. I dragged the AVI extract directly onto the timeleine. The sound was fine but the video playback was almost non-existent - just a few random glimpses.

I tried again (after my phone call to the RSPCA) with various setting changes, but had no joy.

Like John, in MEP 17 I had no problem.

44.1 for PCM is a standard. I did discover that I had posted here before and figured this out a couple years ago:

The slight problem I was encountering is that the resulting file from the above conversion, wouldn't play/sound properly until I checkmarked "Acceleration for high resolution mpegs' in the system settings. Then it would play and allow editing fine. Although if you try something like 'stabilization' you will see it really can't quite interpret it completely.

I have a feeling that I will need to actually transcode these files to a completely different format, which I was trying to avoid. I'll play a bit more with the system settings....just in case. There might also be some local codec dependencies.

I think it's working now. I'll post this for future me to read in 2 years.

- Make sure 'Accelertion for High Resolution videos" is checkmarked in settings

- use FFMPEG to convert audio format from PCM to AAC. I have a batch file that I drop the video files onto:

"c:\program files (x86)\ffmpeg\ffmpeg" -i %1 -vcodec copy "%1.mp4"
It doesnt' require video re-encoding so no loss of quality.

The problem I had with the resulting video was resolved by using a more current FFMPEG version (dated 9/19/12), rather than the 2009 version.
